Owing to the lockdown, here in Qld, the Show Commitee decided, during the week, to postpone this weekend's show. A wise decision indeed, seeing that the lockdown has been extended in our district![thumbsupbig]

Hopefully it will get the 'Green Light' in a couple of months.

Dayboro Show, that guaranteed drought breaking event! Or am I confusing it with the rodeo?

Yes, the Dayboro rodeo is, more often than not, blessed with copious amounts of precipitation![bigsad]

Looks like, with the rain forecast, the postponement of the show, because of lockdown, has a bit of a silver lining!

The likelihood and volume of precipitation at any event is directly proportional to the interest and intent of attendance at said event.

Love the small agricultural shows.

I had the sheer delight of taking my daughters school show team to many of the country shows surrounding Brisbane for a number of years , meeting heaps of locals , CWA scones and cream , shearing comps, woodchops, dog trials and tractors.

I've watched the Ekka modernise to the point I no longer go , but there's still some really good ones that haven't modernised which are worth travelling to.

I'll keep you informed re: the new date.

We used to travel around a lot of country show in NSW with our dogs (Staffordshire Bull Terriers) when I was a kid. Always enjoyed seeing the some of the crafty stuff (particularly the photography) and the wood chopping. Haven't been to one in many many years.

You running low on fire wood? [bigwhistle] Chopping wood is a great frustration/anger release. [biggrin] I have an axe, I find a chainsaw quicker and easier the older I get. [thumbsupbig]

I used an axe once, when I was a Boy Scout. The axe had an edge as fine as a club hammer.

dunno what the real story is with my granma's axe , but I welded a length of rhs for a handle onto the head and it's never come loose since.

I also welded some light 30mm pipe onto a cheap shovel and they're my bush kit. Raises a few eyebrows when the guys go for a morning walk.

Any good or not so good lumberjack knows that the best shoes for woodchop events are Dunlop Volleys, and not just because they have great grip when standing on top of logs, but they are also cheap as chips to replace if they chop into one!

I would have thought the cost of replacement shoes would be the least of your issues if a Wood Chopping contestant chopped into his shoes. [bigsad]

might be different now, but IIRC, Volleys and KT26's were the only "approved" shoe for roofing.

You can get them in steel capped variety to help with OH&S issues
We used to get the steel capped volleys when doing rooftop solar
1/2 the price of regular steel capped boots (and half the life)

If you want to keep your hand in, I could, perhaps, get you some competition grade material. It's still plastic wrapped, too.

Trouble is Saitch, I don’t reckon I am competion grade anymore [bigsad]

That was Jan 1980 , hand trimmed TAS oak, 10 blow front, stay in the back until finished!

You must also be an axeman to have wrapped blocks ?

V8Ian

You'd have to ask Steve, actually I've only got his word for it. I've never been shown the shield.
