GME 330COB install in 2016 LR4

Hi all,

I have a nice new GME 330COB arrived recently and I'd like to do a DIY install in my 2016 LR4.

I was planning on installing the hideaway unit under the Front Passenger seat, a'la LRD414 and other forum members.

Aerial is planned to be mounted on a LabTronics no drill bonnet bracket, which at this stage is on the Passenger side as well.

My question is about Routing Aerial and Power Cables through the firewall, preferably on the Passenger side.

"Does anyone have a sneaky solution to running through the Passenger side Firewall - WITHOUT having to remove the battery, battery tray, etc - locations of grommets and how to access them?

(my drivers side firewall grommet is getting busy, with Traxide, STEDI and other items passing through it already, plus I didn't want to have to extend the aerial cable if i didn't have to.......)

Drivesafe, I found your installation instructions for your Aux Battery Iso really helpful and am wondering if you have any suggestions or links to resources that show how to access behind the passenger footwell? The LR4 is all panelled up pretty neatly and I don't want to go reefing anything off incorrectly........? ie which panels to pull off, which to be careful of, accessing under the carpet, etc

Ummm, thanks JohnD4. I'm not sure if you're being 100% serious about that.....but I'll take a look.

Per my post, I wasn't sure if the aerial cable would reach.......but I'll do some looking.

No I’m serious. They’re is a 2nd hole through the firewall somewhere near the accelerator pedal. Below or above, can’t remember but I’ll also be looking for it soon as I’ve also run out of space in the other hole.

I did some looking last night, couldn't see anything obvious.

Plus the panels running 90degrees off the firewall seem to enter the engine bay quite high, just below the steering column, obscuring everything, so it's looking like a tricky route that way. I looked from underneath but again, couldn't see anything obvious.

I'm going to give the "Busy Hole" a go with a feeder rod (ie steel brazing rod), copious amounts of scilicone slippery spray and see if I can't fit another one in there.

Power, I'm thinking of splicing into the Traxide SC-80 6 B&S that's in the drivers side kick panel, rather than extending the Power cable and trying to fit that through as well. Hopefully there's no issues with doing it that way?

Final update.......Job finished. :)

I managed to fit the aerial and power cables through the main firewall grommet in front of the driver, then route them behind & into the centre console, and under the front passenger seat.

Didn't want to go through the process of removing the passenger seat and airbags etc, to screw the main unit mount to the bracket under the seat, so used some good quality 3M double sided tape.

Mic cable is routed up & through the cup holder with the supplied GME Connector (Dremmeled into the cupholder side wall for a nice snug fit) and onto a Magnetic Mic holder in easy reach of both Chief Cook & Bottle Washer and SHMBO........ :)

Current aerial is the 2.2dBi unit that comes with the GME Outback Touring Pack, and that'll probably stay on there most of the time. I have a 6.6dBi whip on order that I'll put in the kit for when it's needed/applicable.

Now, if only I could drive it further than the edge of my LGA in Sydney, we'd be sorted! I'd have someone to talk to on the new UHF! ;)
