I have never had so many emails from businesses based in China trying to get up trade partnership as of late. that' annoying enough but the constant phone calls from scammers threatening to cut off my nbn.

This afternoon the again rang my mobile it was a robotic call I normally just hang up, but today I was going to play them . The recorded robot message gave me options to speak to account or a technician.
I selected option 1 speak to accounts.
a very strong accented male answered and started to threaten my disconnection of the nbn.
I told him to stop ringing me as dont have internet'.
He just continued his spiel, and then asked my bank details, name of bank
to that I replied "Bank of India
Then he got upset , called me a son of a bitch and hung upon me.
how does he know if l had or didn't have a Bank of India bank account.
i found that very rude of him
I certainly wont be giving my Swiss bank account number when he rings again.
1/2 hr later he rang from a different number

Yep, I quite often get some Aussie sheila's voice, warning me that my NBN will be cut off. Don't even have it here.
Same sheila, I reckon, does the Amazon account scam, another non-account I have.

Hi,
I would love to hand those calls over to my grandson. He is very talkative and seems to understand spoken communication. But only his parents can really understand him and translate his words. He rattles out sentences, full of emphasis and inflection seeming fully structured and considered.
Impolite and harsh replies from Mustapha are the only reason I haven't done so.
Cheers

My record is just under an hour and a half on a "Windows technical department" support call, plus 2 call backs for my credit card details. "I'm a pensioner sonny, I do my banking at the branch with a book". I figure if they're tied up with me they're not scamming someone slightly more susceptible.

I love watching them work too as they "fix my computer" by installing their cryptolocker/spyware, but that's just me being perverse.

Not phone scammers (last one I got three days ago called just as I was serving dinner - and I gave him a good serve!), but I must clearly have a very attractive personality or something - it seems I have had two offers of US$900k from EMBH foundation, and I also have an offer of US$15million from another source.

I am also fascinated by the number of people who have decided after "detailed examination of my website" (I don't have one) are offering their services to manage it.

I got a text on my mobile claiming to be from NAB saying they were going to send my new NAB card to my Springwood address and asking me to click a link to confirm my address.
Two problems:
1. I don't have a NAB card
2. I don't live at Springwood.
Text ignored.

I would be quite happy if my NBN got cut off & they gave me back ADSL at least then I would have internet for 24 hr's a day instead of if I am lucky 6hr's in 24.

For about 2 weeks I was plagued with calls from the USA. Always the call not answered and no message left. The area code kept changing to different parts of the USA. What made it worse was they were not bright enough to realize there was a time difference between there and the UK

My wife keeps getting calls from different Solar Company's with a Quote always for a Jxx Daxxx who get's his jollies being a serial pest through a 3rd party, been going on for couple of years now. They get her contact details from one of the many solar quote providers who find between 3 & 10 quotes. Once a month she will get between 3 to 10 calls over 3 or 4 days. We keep telling these Co's that there is no JD at this address & to stop calling. Telstra told me how to stop it by changing her phone number but my wife suffers from anxiety & dispersion & she thinks this will cause her more stress. We are on the do not call register but because these Co's have been provided a contact number we can't put in a complaint . It's a bit of a Catch 22 situation , wait for all the solar providers to get the message or change her number , booth causing her lots of stress. The only people who know her number are our immediately family , couple of friends & this JD who ever he is, she only has the phone for emergencies , If we need to give anyone a number we give them mine & if they need to talk to her I give her my phone as I am always with her. I know this JD's name & have done a search which bought up 3 people of this name , none in Qld , but then the solar providers calling only one has been from Qld , they are mostly from NSW, Vic, SA & 1 from WA. Been thinking lately about going to the police to see what they can do.

Have you tried registering with the do not call register?

Do Not Call Register (https://www.donotcall.gov.au/)

Or 1300*792*958

Having said that (all our phones are registered) we still get calls from India. I just challenge them on how they got the number saying they are in breach of the federal telecommunications & privacy acts and they generally hang up…

All I do is ask them for their company ABN so that I can report them for calling a do not call number!

Yes I have countless times but because this guy has requested a quote using my wife's number they can not go after the company's that ring her with a quote , all we can do is tell all these Co's that this guy is a time waster & they tell me they will take her off the call list. If only my wife would let me change her number that she has had for over 20 years . Think I will give police a go next time I have some one looking after my wife, can't hurt .

Block the numbers in her phone...

OR.... Add the calls you want into the favourites on the device and direct all other calls to messages..

The numbers come from wherever they choose to have come up.

It’s great fun as I get genuine work calls from all across the globe and it can be hard to work out what’s what.

I get the odd one on the mobile but have found the trick with an 'odd' number (with a location showing) is to let it ring a few times then answer.

If all is quiet on the other end one of the 32 numbers whoever has dialled has picked up.

If I hadn't have answered a call that was just a bit suss once I'd have missed out on a fill in fish survey job up at Ned's Corner, where I'd never been, all expenses, etc, etc.

A great gig teaching someone how to drive a boat in creeks, launch and retrieve safely with no ramps. Safety, safety and get the job done. Would have measured / weighed 50k fish that week. We were doing the small stuff with nets.

If I do not know the number on the landline after pick up count to 5 if no one says anything hang up as is an auto dialer. If am that unimportant that they use one of these I do not need to speak to them. Also hope that by answering I have added to their costs. Although expect they are using internet VOIP calling and so not pay per call

While not technically on topic here if you are finding it difficult to reach a company via phone. They all seem to have no one there to answer with long delays left on hold due to ‘corona virus’ problems. A cynic would say the poor service was there before this is just a new excuse. Try looking up the number you call to pay them. These lines always seem to be fully staffed and you do not have to go on hold for hours. Have found the people who answer are as helpful as the other line where you wait on hold

And be careful calling back.
Some then run a pay per minute scam that ends up costing!

I see contact tracers have had trouble contacting some people as it comes up as an unknown number and some people don't answer.

I had an email yesterday saying I had won a $100 Qld Holiday voucher and to click a link for details. I was suspicious, but it turned out to be genuine, so I may be going whale-watching. You never know.

I never answer unknown numbers. I don’t care if I don’t recognise a number that’s not a contact in my phone - I get dozens a day like that from customers but I just won’t answer ‘unknown’. If they left a message I’d check it and get back to them if that was an option though.

I'm the same. Fortunately negative Covid test results are sent as a text message - I've had 4 - but they call if you are positive. They would have to text for me to call back.

For me its normally round 3pm that I get the calls...

*coming up as local or interstate landline numbers, as Tombie said they can put whatever number they want to show.
*"Amazon" renewal of account is the latest one.
*the "ATO" robot calls.
*"First Response" about my recent accident (although not had one).
*"Telstra" offering good news to upgrade my NBN
*More good news to help me access my super right now!
*lots and lots offering a great deal to manage my website and get me top rankings!
*"Google" management team offering another great deal about something

Emails are 10 a day...
*All China businesses. "we are largest Co etc etc, with 30% capacity!" (whatever that means) first line stock! (whatever that means)
from steel suppliers, 4x4 suppliers, medical supplies etc etc etc, I dont think there is any actual targeted marketing.

The other emails are all about re-doing my some what crap website and getting me top on Google.
All must cut and paste the same email from/to each other.
"first off let me tell you I am not a SEO lol lol" (is that some funny website joke?)
"I have come across your website and being a stickler for things correct I found a number of technical errors" (yeah no ****)

The number that is displayed does not mean a lot as there are companies out there that buy up numbers and own the legitimately who then rent the numbers to other companies to use on a daily basis

If you want to play the game and have the spare time buy yourself a premium number they do not cost much. You can set the cost of calling the number. Then whenever you run into an organisation which only has premium numbers to call them give this number to them as your contact number

Also put this number out there so the scammers will have it on their lists and call it. Use it for competitions as these are usually a front for collecting names and numbers for call lists that are then sold on

Sounds basic but many of these organizations do not check and just call the number so the longer you can keep them on the line the more they pay you for your time

Had a bank that was calling me for marketing purposes at about 6:30 as dinner was hitting the table. Was nice asking not to call at this time but still they kept calling. Changed my number and they still called but were now paying me for my time and I was much more co operative even asking them to call me back

I always let the home phone answering machine take the call, which I "call screen" and answer it if I want. I normally don't answer the mobile unless I recognise the number but having said that, similar to the unsolicited whale watching and fish surveying, I did answer the mobile once while half asleep just after the GFC and it was my bank, about re-arranging my affairs so that I ended up with a $30K tax write off. had one ring my mobile today, it was someone with a strong accent and you could hear the others there, it must be a call centre of scammers. this time amazon, about $700 iphone from amazon and lf i didnt order it to continue.
I started to play them by saying no speak english sorry, they kept trying and l said very expensive and iphone?
she asked if l wanted to cancel and if l had a computer, l replied no speak english, no computer. she gave up and said l didn't have to do anything she would cancel from their end and said good bye.
l had Heather in the background yelling at me to hang up to the scammers, but this was fun.

best one i ever had was way back when we had a landline [only had it as son was newborn and wanted to be able to call 000 if any issues, no one had the number and we didn't dial out on it], they auto dial the numbers and wait for you to say something so this lass was talking to her friend next cubicle over about how she maxed her credit card buying sexy undies... i listened for a few minutes then coughed and she hung up.

she was rather descriptive btw
