I was wondering if any forum members own one and use it as a proper 4wd.....apparently it has all the capability of most Land Rover vehicles.

One never hears a peep about them.

I have a cousin with one , she was going to buy an Evoque and chose a nicely optioned up demonstrator instead.

She has had about 4 trouble free years in it, reckons nothing would make her sell it.

It is extremely comfortable and delightful to drive , I dont think she has taken it on a dirt road.

There seem to be plenty of low mileage ones for sale at a quarter of the price of a defender.

If it's off road pedigree is good , it might just interest me as a replacement for my Ranger.

I know a couple of people who have them in Brisbane, and love them, but I doubt if they have ever been off road.

I'm currently working my way through youtube offroad test on them

I'm very impressed.... 5th gear and Top Gear both tried to stop one in mud snow ice sand uphill river crossing......

Why haven't more offroad enthusiasts bought one?

The Disco Sport replaced the Freelander 2, so it's probably the most capable of all soft-roaders on the market today. Because they have Terrain Response and other whiz bang electrickery, they only tend to run into problems when greater ground clearance is needed (has coils, not airbags), or the tech can't cope (ie. extended periods of time doing soft sand driving, etc). If you understand their limitations, and are not expecting one to go everywhere a dedicated 4WD (ie. low range, good clearance, etc) can go, then they are a fantastic option. It's horses for courses.

The mini me disco? I drove one as a loan car once. It was a car. It lacked character, bland to drive. Whilst it might be a capable soft-roader it felt very light duty to me. It’s a Generic Expensive SUV. If I wanted a soft roader I’d buy a Subaru.

I think user TB had a Disco Sport before he got a D4 and now a new Defender. From memory he made a few enhancements and did a bit off road.

There's a fair bit of info in the disco sport forum including any issues they've experienced:
