G'day guys. I have an 03 Disco V8 HSE with SLS, ACE etc and I am curious as to the behaviour of my suspension. When I come down off a speed bump the suspension belts down onto the bump stops, is this how it should be? I would have thought not. After testing this a couple of times this morning (and losing my fillings) I pressed the raise suspension button and tried again. The suspension then performed how I would expect and the ride was much more "controlled" over the speed bumps. After this I dropped it back down to the std height and tried again and I noticed the car didn't crash down on the bump stops, after a while it will start crashing down again as I have done this before. Does this suggest my air bag sensors are stuffed or set to low or something? Is there an easy adjustment of these?

the bump stop height is 61mm or if you do not want to crawl under the vehicle check from wheel center to wheel arch (not liner) 473mm+/_ 15mm. also if your shocks are stuffed this will cause them to bottom out as there is no resistance on compression.

Another mod I did was to fit a speed controller ($35) between the compressor and control soleniods no resistance when inflating the air bags but very slow to deflate especially when the car is full of camping gear, what would happen is when it went down it would overshoot (to low) then the compressor would come on a pain if going over rough ground or going down a steep bank this would cause the rear to raise then the SLS computer would dump air of course when you start going back up hill the suspension would be to low then the compressor would be trying to inflate with the all the weight on the rear axle, fitting the speed controller cured this

just had new factory shocks put in on the back. So the 61mm, is this the space between the top of the bump stop and stop plate at normal ride height? I'll drop the suspension down and crawl under now.

just checked the bump stops and they are 61mm. I also checked the space between the base of the bump stops and the stop plate on the diff and this is about 137mm after just dropping it down. I'll give it a while and chaeck again in case it drops further. You can definately see where the stops have been hitting the plate on the diff as it is all shinny.
