GST on car repair

About a month ago I asked my daughter to move the Defender in a carpark, but forgot to tell her I had broken the handbrake cable !!
The result was it rolled back into another car causing about $800 damage- just a few marks but I expected to get hit with a complete respray etc.
I just paid the insurance companies bill - I don't want to involve my insurance company- but notice that the insurer didn't pass on the GST as per the panel beater invoice.
Is this normal? a mistake? can I expect another bill?

Odd. As the repair was a service it definitely must have GST added. And, yes, you need to pay it. I suspect it was an oversight from the insurance company and you may well get an additional invoice in the future. Mind you, if you get another bill from their insurance company, I would respond by saying that you paid the last bill in full settlement and if they made an error then they can wear it. They will not bother pursuing you for $80.

If the vehicle is insured as a business vehicle whereby the business can claim GST on costs then the insurance policy does not include cover for GST because the business will claim the GST directly. Hence it appears that the insurance company has only paid out the GST-exclusive claim amount and therefore is only passing onto you what they paid out.
