That's a very comprehensive report. Thanks.

Here is how to cut industrial emissions in Australia. It can be done. Exports of minerals needed by low-emissions industries could also become worth much more than coal.

Rural Australia is pockmarked with small dams. Researchers say they could also be 'batteries' - ABC News (https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2023-09-07/rural-australia-is-pockmarked-with-small-dams-batteries/102799756)

Pumped hydro is looking even better as "There are over 30,000 paired dams across Australia that could produce power"

Did you see todays 1 billion by WA? [bigwhistle][bigwhistle][bigwhistle]

"The West Australian government says it has awarded contracts worth more than $1 billion with China battery maker CATL to supply batteries for two of the country’s biggest battery projects. The contracts awarded to Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) are for the 200MW/800MWh second stage of the Kwinana big battery, which has already begun early works, and the 500MW/2000MWh Collie big battery, also being developed by Synergy.
The awarding of the contract to CATL should not be a big surprise given that it supplied the batteries to the first 100MW/200MWh stage of the Kwinana battery. But it still represents a major win for the company in the face of competition from Tesla, Fluence, Wartsilla and others.
The WA government said in a statement that the contracts would involve about 300 of CATL’s EnerC Plus, containerised liquid-cooling battery systems for the Kwinana project, and about 650 EnerC Plus systems for Collie." Noted CATL is about to start 500wh per KG this year in another car thread- I wonder if that is in the WA 1 billion $$$ batteries

Eletric Jesus might be miffed[bigwhistle] Its "950 EnerC Plus containerised liquid-cooling battery systems" Seems a big deal. "200MW/800MWh second stage of the Kwinana big battery, which has already begun early works, and the 500MW/2000MWh Collie big battery, also being developed by Synergy."

Being lazy after a long drive and 4am start- I wonder how long that power WA for?

It does not mention the Borumba pumped Hydro here in SEQ which is causing such a fuss with affected landowners due to power lines crossing their land and having it resumed.

Given the 100MWh one up the road can run our plant for about 5 minutes - this one could keep us going for about 40min if it was in SA... [bigwhistle]

Once again on Sunday, temps in high 30s and not a single wind turbine moving - out of about 100 of the buggers!

This pod cast brought up that the quoted Experts on the Energy transition specifically exclude the Distribution cost or assumes the cost remains the same! Static??

It involves approximately 250 km of subsea cables and approximately 90 km of underground land cables. originally estimated to cost between $3.1 billion and $3.8 billion. It blew up by at least another 1.5 billion before it was scaled back to one cable still costing about the same as the original price!!!!

Cut in half and even then Tassi wanted to sink it as a Dog. Victoria bailed it out with a few billion we do not have!!!! An enquiry by the TAS parliament should scare some and make taxpayers grumpy !
"Today they've admitting it was a stinker for Tasmania. They are a national joke."

Those grumpy feed in tarrifs are just 4 to 12 cents might not know
VIC "CURRENT SPOT PRICE (/MWh) -$103.08"
NSW -$50
SA -$99
QLD- -$40
WA $0
TAS $11.27

Yet we are paying more for it due to the insane disjointed and failure to objectively look at all costs not the blind freddy Trust me by some!!

The true cost is NOT stated! One thing is certain. We will be paying a LOT more for it!

"AEMO avoids specifying the total costs involved. But, from an interview with Daniel Westerman, the head of AEMO, the Australian Financial Review (https://www.copyright%20link/companies/energy/infrastructure-companies-scramble-for-a-piece-of-energy-transition-20220701-p5ayff) construed it at $320 billion (about $12 billion a year) to 2050. This excludes the cost of the distribution system – 40 per cent of the total costs – which will require massive augmentations if the electric vehicle aspirations are to be met.
The planned new system brings much higher prices. Compared with under $40 per MWh prior to 2016, spot prices are now running at over $200 per MWh. That’s over twice what any of the experts hired by the regulators predicted.

Blind Freddy could see that was going to happen.

And, like fuel,it will feed inflation.
