Enjoyed the history in this. Honestly saw some of this and have just a bit myself via a nice Policeman RIP

One of the bits I knew was a semi auto Betta shot gun which is sadly now longer due to a murdering selfish pratt in tassie - Hope he rots in jail for ever myself[bigwhistle]
The PPK and more. [biggrin] I did not know Mr Browings invention was ripped off by Beretta until now [bighmmm]

The MK1 Lee-Metford , a comparison with the Mk1 Lee Enfield. I didn't know that when cordite was chosen in 1891 as the smokeless powder for use in service ammunition one unforseen characteristic was it burned so hot it burned barrels out.

A case or two of WW2 303 stuff was given to me. Seriously corrosive stuff. Not really a war time issue with damage to barrels taking a bit longer than a few weeks. The simplicity improvements of the evolutions was fantastic to see.

Of a little trivia was M1 Garand used widely by Americans V japans Type 38 rifle. "The M1 Garand was easily the best main battle rifle of the Second World War, and it was praised by the GIs who carried it, but also by General Dwight D. Eisenhower who had described it as the weapon that won the war. The highest praise came from Gen. George S. Patton, who called the M-1 Garand rifle "the greatest battle implement ever devised.""

There is a massive advantage of the M1 Garand over japans Type 38 rifle or the improved Type 99 rifle. Interesting to note the Type 99 had a cock-on-closing action and volley sites which were on 303's decades before- Mimicry is a form of flattery [biggrin]

It's not surprising that the Garand was a superior rifle in WW2. The Germans main combat rifle was the K98 Bolt Action and the Japanese had the Ariska Bolt Action. Both were seriously disadvantaged when up against a semi-automatic rifle. I've used a Garand and it was impressive.

This is a good video made by an American with a sense of humour.

" John C Garand made the M1 as an apology for being Canadian"

And : " The M1 carbine, made for jeep drivers, Chaplains and pacifists."

One thing I was told about the M1 is that at the last round the clip is ejected with a tell tale 'ping' . In the jungle against the Japanese that ping alerted the enemy you needed to reload, but some US soldiers carried a clip in their pocket and would throw it against a tree to give the 'ping', and the enemy would more often than not give their position away.

Back before the Gun Laws I had an M1, nice rifle.
Only ever shot targets & a few pigs with it, took a few shots to drop a big pig, or, maybe I was a lousy shot.
Sold it to a Bikie when the laws changed.
