Can you tell if this LT230 has a CDL from this photo

After another look, I can see a rod that connects to the CDL.

It would be easier if it was not upside down!

I don't know of any rod , but there will be a flat sided threaded spigot on the other side if it has cdl

Look here… at the front - just right of the output flange

By the look of a Rod sticking out the side of your photo the answer is yes, that one has one.

As others have said, its upside down. That aside, its got a diff lock.
Its an old lt230 from a mid eighties or nineties Defender. The leyland logo on the bottom plate and the old style (small) drain plug [tonguewink]

And no that rod is the range selector (hi/low)

Suitable to re build for a 2003 Disco?

Suitable to re build for a 2003 Disco?

A D2 will have a larger flange on the front output. (not a big issue)
That case will have a transducer on the output flange (again not a big issue)
An early or earlier lt230 cases have straight cut gears, I cant remember when it changed to helical gears (so might be slightly noisier)
Has a stud where a D2 will have a bolt on odd spots.

It will work, but if you want like for like as a direct swap then find a D2 LT230 case with a diff lock, likely a lot easier to find than the old type boxes.

That will have a hole for the speedo that you don't need

That wont have the switch to tell the computer if you're in high or low range.

If it is out of a Defender, the ratio is more than likely 1.4 instead of the Disco's 1.2 also.

No LT230s have straight cut gears. They are all helical. The later boxes use finer gears to make them quieter at the expense of being weaker.

Ok , not at all suitable. 1.4 lower than 1.2?

The low range is the same, but the high range is lower to suit the Defenders bigger tyres and probably their lack of aerodynamics. They’re also not as quiet as a Disco2 box.
