going to put my gme tx3400 uhf in the disco and starting looking at locations for the ariel, bullbar is the norm but thinking maybe a bracket off the sparewheel mount might be suitable ? I know that the centre of the roof is the ideal location for reception but not practical.

What aerial do you have?
If you have a "ground independant" aerial then the centre of the roof is not an issue as the aerial will not rely on the roof as a reflector.
So some options are:
Bull bar
Gutter mount
Bonnet mount
Spare mountThe higher the better for reception but the more vulnerable it is to damage.
I have gutter mounted mine to the rear passenger side D pillar and with a Z bracket I fabricated have lowered it so that the 3dba aerial just protrudes above the roof of the Disco and is protected by the roof rack

I have a 980mm 4.5 db gound independent gme antenna - just found the packet it came in, i know very little about them but wanted to avoid mounting on bullbar but i will see where it will be less suceptable to damage and mount it there.
