JCB making Hydrogen internal combustion engines for the heavy/ long distance market.

Why JCB thinks hydrogen is the best alternative to diesel for heavy machinery, farming and HGV fleet - YouTube (https://youtu.be/wDKLoLUQgH0?list=TLPQMjYwODIwMjGX4WU6klhvog)

Now that's an interesting concept. I know hydrogen is pretty useless in a conventional spark ignition otto cycle because of its tragically low octane rating. I've not heard it being used in a diesel cycle before.

ICE Hydrogen is one of the better options moving forward IMO. We have over 100 years of technology development/knowledge in ICE engines, why not use/adapt it for Hydrogen fuels. It also has the smallest infrastructure shift for maximum gain vs fuel cell/electric etc.

That has been worked on for many years now without any significant breakthrough. From memory the best donk for hydrogen was the Wankel.

The biggest issue is still storage. The energy density isn't there yet.
