Hi all. I just bought a 2009 Disco 3. The previous owner has installed an aftermarket Alpine sound system and all of the steering wheel controls work etc. plus it's a great unit.

However, when trying to access the settings menu on the dashboard display (where the settings are changed using the right hand buttons on the steering wheel) those buttons only change things on the Alpine and do not seem to work to change the settings.

This is a little annoying as I cannot set the clock or change other settings like auto door lock.

Has anyone else had this issue and, if so, how did you fix it?

Once you fit an aftermarket stereo you lose the ability to adjust those settings or add the clock, the benefits far outway the negatives.

Just to expand on what loanrangie has already said, the SWC connect to the head unit. The factory head unit is the clock and manages translating the SWC to broadcast those to the other ECU in the vehicle, so once you remove the factory head you lose all of that.

Aside from the clock on the dash and no access to the settings, you also lose time-stamping on fault events. No biggie, but I've found that useful in the past.

is that the same for the D4? so after fitting an android screen you can no longer access even the oil level display or any of the menus in dashboard (the one in front of the steering wheel not just the menus on the head unit)?

Beats me, I don't have a D4. A quick look at the D4 wiring diagram shows the SWC connects to a module called "unit-multi function display", rather than "Audio head unit" so you might get away with it.
