I have paid my deposit on a new Defender today. I was going to entitle this thread "Trigger Pulled". That tends to imply something happening quickly, but it isn't and so I changed it.

I am advised that it might take 8-9 months or more to get the car delivered. A more accurate estimate may be possible after JLR processes my order.

BTW and for information if anyone is considering an order. The dealer explained that a message has come "down the line" to say that cars will be supplied with only one key (plus a manual key). The second key will be supplied when sufficient chips become available. Seems they are applying a new definition of "keyless entry".[wink11]

In brief, I have ordered a 110 , D300 5 seat in Fuji white. I have included some options and packs. I now just have to be patient while the long, slow fuse burns..............................:firedevil:

"8-9 months"
Typical gestation period..............Will you be there for the delivery?

And the car eventually arrived in late October or nearly 14 months after initial order. I have really enjoyed getting this car and have been driving for about 6 weeks now. A few changes since the original spec.
Colour became Gondwana Stone because the charge for non white colours was dropped.
Up grade to Windsor leather with heated and cooled seats.
No matrix head lights but this may be a blessing since I gather the switch wiring for a light bar or spotties is more complex if matrix lights are fitted.
No clear sight rear mirror/camera.

At first service 2000km I had mud flaps fitted because the paint in front of rear wheels was getting pitted.

I am going to ask the dealer to check the sound system as the speakers rattle at louder volume.

I have ordered rock sliders (Lucky8) and a bull bar (Rhino).

Over all I am very happy and this is an excellent upgrade from my D4 HSE

Did yours come with 2 keyless fobs?
Mine (delivered 2 mo ago) came with only 1 fob/key combo, 1 metal key and a wristwatch style keyless entry as a backup. The wristwatch thingy requires regular usb charging
The second fob has no ETA, but is on backorder

I went for the adaptive led matrix and it is literally brilliant. I dont think I will need spots or aux led bars.
Responds to other vehicles and once I learned how to operate it, haven't had an angry flashback since
In the bush it recognises the speed and terrain and lights the way automatically. It even responds to the steering wheel throwing infill led to the left or right
At $6K replacement I hope they keep performing for more than the warranty period!

I received the same combo that you describe. I quite like the activity key/watch thingy. Mine keeps its charge for at least a week.
I also missed out on the overhead sunglasses storage.
I live in a very isolated area where it is rare to meet another car at night, thus the matrix lights are not a big issue.

Just out of interest, when another car approaches, do matrix lights turn off a light bar (or extra driving lights) if fitted?

We missed out on the sunny holders as well. The lid for the rear fusebox is missing, and the power assisted closing rear door was deleted

I doubt the software could be easily integrated to control auxiliary lights. You do have the option of overriding the adaptive lighting and manually switch lo/hi beam which may allow control of auxiliary lights
The adaptive matrix lighting has a large array of leds. The sensors and cameras detect and map the road and vehicles ahead and modifies the beam pattern, by controlling the led array via some fancy algorithm. It illuminates the feid of view and blanks out the vehicle up ahead. It also recognises rural roads, probably by lack of streetlights and adapts the lighting best suited to those driving conditions.

Since my previous comment. I had the dealer investigate the speakers....so they replaced them......without the problem being resolved. Only happens occasionally, so I'll live with it.
Rock sliders from Lucky8. What a saga! Delivery was taking for ever. Turns out they made a mistake with the freight quote and cancelled my order (claiming it was cancelled at my request, it wasn't. ) They refunded my money and I lost $500 on the exchange rate. Then they expected me to place a new order. Hell NO!!

Finally, my Rhino bar is being installed as we speak. Looking forward to the upgraded light bar I opted with it.

But overall: It is a fabulous car.

Rhino Bar fitted now. I had some concerns because after I ordered I saw some reports that the bar had not been fitted well and I've seen photos of the small central "loop" not meeting the main bar component squarely. This had resulted in an ugly gap. Another concern was that the 4x4 accessary shop said (as I dropped the car off) that they were looking forward to doing the job......it was their first on a New Defender. [bigsmile]

Picked up the car and I need not have worried. They did an excellent job except that the "loop" referred to above was not fitted. It seems this part had been supplied to Rhino in Australia but the batch was unsatisfactory. They are expecting a new shipment of the components and will supply it to be fitted in due course. In the mean time I quite like the look of the bar without the loop. This does, however, leave the front camera somewhat exposed. I have read that some people were concerned about the ventilation/airflow to the radiators. I can confirm that it is better than it was with the original bumper bar.

If anyone else in Tasmania is wanting to get a Rhino Bar, I am happy with the service from Tassie 4x4. [smilebigeye]

Pictures as requested. The first is a close view of the passenger side vents in an attempt to show the airflow allowance and protection for the intercooler radiator.

Sorry that the car is dirty, but we live away from civilisation and we have had rain and snow. Our roads are all dirt. In fact, Gondwana Stone is a pretty good colour to blend in. I'll wash the car eventually.
