Created a Suspension Fault

Yesterday I did a trial connection of my caravan to my 2014 D4 and did suspension height adjustments with the van connected. Today the Amber Suspension Fault displayed on the dash and the suspension height and terrain type adjustment switches are inoperative. The vehicle is locked at its maximum suspension height setting with all corners at a common height.

Dr Google does not appear to provide a solution to this problem as there is no change in the vehicle height when left over night. I dont as yet have the facility to read codes, thats on the wish list.

Appreciate if someone can provide a fix.

Hey mate, Just to be clear, you put the van on, adjusted it to off-road height and left it. The next day. It's still there and has the orange triangle?

Did you drive it between hooking it up.. Did you drop it before you left etc. Did you get any extra faults. When playing around with the boat once I got compressor over temp al alarm.

What's your ball weight? Have you tried taking it off and going for a drive?

They don't like you putting them up and down like an elevator in the driveway. They get hot.

The next morning when I started the engine the fault displayed and there was no response from the height setting adjustment switches. Have disconnected the battery, checked all suspension related fuses no change in the situation.

Had to drive the car today and naturally got the red tree displayed if I exceeded 50kph. Suspension has NOT dropped onto the stops.

Yes,exactly,just like any specialist tool,a code reader should be the first investment once one of these vehicles enters ones life.[bighmmm]

It may be a coincidence and the compressor needs servicing.

I spent the wee hours procrastinating on when this fault raised its head and it became apparent that it was all a process of connecting my caravan and testing that all the lights on the van were functional and the LR went into towing mode.

Came to the conclusion that the LR was stuck in "Towing Mode", disconnected all wiring controlling the LR entering this mode when the blinkers or hazard lights are used. (There was no indication on the dash that this was the case.) This resulted in the fault disappearing and all vehicle height and terrain selection switches becoming functional.

Further fault finding found the earth on the relay for switching the indicator ballast resistors had gone open circuit. Wiring repaired and all tested fully functional.

It is apparent there is some interaction between "Towing Mode" and the suspension and Terrain Mode selection switching functions.

A Happy Camper I can put on hold purchase of a Diagnostic Tester until the bank balance recovers from getting this vehicles servicing current.

OBD2 Australia based in Perth sell a low lost Landrover / Jaguar code reader for under $200 delivered if your budget is limited . Bought one about 6 months ago and seems to do a good but basic job if all you need are codes to read or clear . Might be an option ?

I'm not sure what that interaction would be. I've towed trailers and a caravan in off-road modes (Lo-Range/Sand/Grass, Gravel, Snow) and also used the suspension as normal, for extra clearance in sand and dealing with erosion berms on steep slopes (with long) caravan.

Maybe you mean something else and I've grabbed the wrong end [bigrolf]

Well it won't go into off-road height automatically when trailer/van is hitched up and you then select Rock Crawl or Mud & Ruts (for example). However you can still select Off-Road height with the switch as normal. So in that sense there is interaction between towing mode & TR system.
