Hopefully It's okay to put this here [bigwhistle]

On Sunday, September 26th 2021, I'll be taking part in the world's first The Distinguished Gentleman's Drive. Together with thousands of classic car enthusiasts around the world, I will be raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health for the charity, Movember. Before the dapper day, I'll be looking to raise as much as possible for the cause, to help men around the world live happier and healthier lives. With men's chances of developing prostate cancer later in life increasing, and one man dying every minute by suicide, we must do all we can to prevent more men from suffering. This is something that affects us all and together, we can make a change.

Please give what you can. [smilebigeye] Details here

Let's get behind this, it doesn't take many to make a modest donation turn into a significant amount.

Individually, through the link in the first post.

Therein lies the problem.
I am happy to donate a couple of dollars But I am not prepared to hand out my full name, address and email tob an unknown (to me) internet site..
Even if you check to anonymous box the site still insists on getting the personal information regardless.

I much prefer to do this via aulro [thumbsupbig]

All donations however big or small will certainly help.

After servicing the TC and fitting new water pump it was discovered the car had developed a major oil leak from the rocker cover [bawl] this was noticed 2 days after setting the tappets and refitting rocker cover. Previous test runs had shown no leaks !! It was running into the exhaust manifold and was messy.
It's friday morning and I'm panicking as I can't find any cork gasket material anywhere, 3 hours later a sca store come up with the goods and it's full steam ahead to make and fit new gasket [smilebigeye]

Saturday morning is test time and my birthday, and we ended up at Petrie Market Steam Fair for breakfast [bigwhistle] We also got directed into the display area !! It appears the oil leak is fixed too.

Sunday morning started with a brisk drive up to Eumundi for the start of our drive, There was a stray navigator wandering around looking for a seat so he got the job in my car [wink11] After a quick briefing we started at 30 second intervals and off we went 7th off the line. Howard the navigator was brilliant and we only missed one turn off, I'm not sure how I would have coped without him.
After a great drive through some lovely scenic routes we ended up at Gunabul Homestead,Gympie for lunch and presentations.

To date my total raised is $902.00 and our team total is $4,954.00 :twobeers: This does not include any donations in Ian's account. Many thanks to all my sponsors I really appreciate it.

You can donate until 30th October [wink11][wink11]

I would suggest quite a few older members here would have had Prostate Cancer although younger blokes can get hit with it as well. I certainly did & as my Urologist told me a few years back "A lot of folk die with it not because of it" (I wish he had told me that before he ripped a heap of dosh out of me)
Some actually snuff it without even realising they have it.

Life after surgery, if that is the way you want to go, (not go as such, direction is probably a better word) [bighmmm] can be a bit fraught, but day by day you make the most of it. Other methods ie. , Radiation therapy, Laser, Keyhole, other than major Surgery may be a lot simpler but of course you don't normally get the opportunity to choose & my bloke prefers surgery so he can get in there & have a good shufti around. Probably charges more for a Consult too.

One certainly needs a very tolerant spouse & really have your PSA checked on a regular basis.

But Hey Ho, there are many other worse things that can bugger up your day.[bawl]

Mental Health.
This seems to have come to the fore in the last couple of years due to many things, but I suggest the C-19 Pandemic has a lot to answer for. We were all possibly a bit doolally before Covid hit due to many personal things in our lives but never quite got around to contemplating Suicide.

Case in point.

A friend of ours of many years, came home one day & found, lets call him Bob for that is his name, flaked out on the floor while in the process of packing for a holiday to Cairns. Bob had had a Stroke & was hopitalised for a few weeks & then transferred to a care home. Now Veggie status.

Wife couldn't see how she was going to cope & eventually took a handful of pills & as daughter couldn't contact her by phone, checked the premises & found her face down, dead.

So, No Holiday Bob is now a permanent fixture in the Care Facility & he is only my age.

He had held a few executive positions in his work life but I doubt it included basket weaving or whatever they do these days.

[bigrolf] I know how it feels. No really.

When I was a 12 year old kid my Uncle & Aunt drove me from West Preston to Cobden with me crouched in the luggage space in one of those. (no seat belts back then)
In the 'burbs it was fine, but once on the open road I could have been sucked off/out if you get my drift.

They had decided that the next stage of my journey back to Adelaide was to be by car & not by Train. (The final stage in about a week's time was by train& escorted by another Unc who was an Anglican Parish Priest in Cobden.)

Just recalled, it was here that I first read Baden Powell's "Scouting for Boys" the original handbook of the Scouting movement. It was the sort of book that one could not put down when reading it.[bigsad]

Because of it, I joined the Scouts & was there for about 15 years.
Scouting for Boys - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scouting_for_Boys)

Edit.
Unc's was a ( what I have always called British Racing Green, I don't know if that was an MG Colour but it looked bloody beautiful.)

Between the seats & affixed to the Tranny Tunnel he had adapted what looked like something out of an Aircraft into a Car Radio. It was about 6" sqare -ish. Station selection was by a tiny "Hills Hoist" type winder knob which could be operated on the move without visually selecting a Station.

This was the same Unc who I have mentioned elsewhere that flew "Bully Beef Bombers "in PNG in WW2 usually DC3s, Low & Slow stuff up the valleys..
