A startup in the UK are looking at producing a Morris JE van. Looks classic yet modern.

Always loved the J-van, now a chance to buy one that will keep up with modern traffic, 60,000 GBP though !!

The rear side door slides but not the fronts.
As you suggest, probably a safety issue.
