All of a sudden we have 3 new icons at the bottom of the main screen, all green.
A shoe on a pedal with green bars after it,
A timer? with green bars,
and a brake symbol? with green bars?

any ideas?

These are diving efficiency indicators.

You have inadvertently pressed the button on the end of of the indicator stalk. This button allows to to cycle through the various trip meters/fuel efficiency numbers etc. The same button allows you to reset your trip A/Trip B numbers.

just keep pressing the button to cycle through which info you want to display in that spot ... trip A/B info/remaining range/instant fuel consumption/ave. fuel consumption etc.

Have a look at those icons while you are driving to see how they react. You also have an entire page dedicated to "eco" data in the infotainment screen.

Also, you can choose in the settings which of these you display, for instance the instant fuel consumption appears pretty meaningless to me so I exclude this from being displayed as I cycle through.

Interesting thing that I have noticed is that the instant fuel consumption can tell you if a Regeneration of the DPF is happening.
When rolling down a hill the instant fuel consumption normally drops to 0.1 litres however, if a regen is happening fuel is still being injected and you will see a higher figure than the usual 0.1
That's the only thing that I have found useful for the instant fuel consumption readout.
