We could hear the fire works from our place at Westlake so went out side & could see them from under our pergola.

I took a few photos, but none of them did justice to the display.
Being atop of Mt, Coot-ha* after dark took me back a couple of decades, to the last time I was there after dark.
I was driving a bus, with six or eight young fellows, residential patients of an aquired brain injury hospital. We also had a female nurse as an escort.
We had been to the speedway, which finished relatively early, giving us a couple of hours up our sleeve, before curfew.
As these blokes relished the too few opportunities to get away from the hospital, I suggested a detour to to enjoy the lights. The supervision of these fellows, half of them in powered or manual chairs, is quite arduous, a bit like having full sized, excited kids wanting to run in different directions while I'm trying to un/secure others in their chair, to the bus floor.
We managed to get all these guys to the very public viewing area, without loosing anybody, when one fellow, in a wheelchair said he needed a wee. That's a logistic nightmare, with stairs to be negotiated and not being sure if the loo was disabled friendly. The nurse came up with a very practical soloution. The plan was masterfully and professionally put into action. All the fellows were asked to form a huddle. Nursie produced a stainless steel urine bottle, quickly and stealthily putting it to its intended use, with the large crowd being totally unaware of the event. With similar stealth, but far more casually, she moved to the edge of the platform and emptied said bottle into the scrub below. All this was achieved with the crowd still being totally unaware. Well, they would have been totally unaware if not for the angry objections from the romantic couple in the bush below! We hastily made our exit.
*Mt. Coot-ha is the highest point in the Greater Brisbane area, between Brisbane and Ipswich, with TV broadcasting antennas and a restaurant/lookout complex.

One of my son's goes to level 28, No1 William st,to watch the show each year.
His wife works on that level, and they are allowed to go there. They park on site which is convenient as well.
He said that C17 was actually below them and headed towards the building and turned when it we very close, the whole building shook.
Mt Cootha, havent been there for years,we used to go there at night as teenagers, but i dont think it was to look at the view.[bighmmm][biggrin]

We were on the 8th floor opposite QPAc
The first pass of the global master down the Brisbane Drain was at our eye level
Your son on 28 would have been way above !
The second pass was much higher i did wonder if the first pass was perhaps a scooch below their target altitude !
Was impressive and now my 2yo daughter wants to be a helicopter pilot !

I can believe that as I saw it on TV, and the skyscrapers were throwing shadows on the C17 as it flew past!

Amazing to think that once the plane is off the ground, the RAAF value it at $0.

Have seen a US news story with footage of the fly past where they were complaining that it was not safe and was giving people 9/11 flashbacks

Bit like when my brother started racing his concourse Mk 7 Jag , when people asked him if he was worried about racing it , he would say " you need to be prepared to loose it 1st day 1st race" 174020 I was never prepared to do that with my MGBGT174021

If I remember when I was an infantry soldier we had the longest expected battle field life of the forces at the time , the RAAF aeroplanes having the shortest.
