Hi, I’m new to the Land Rover ownership I purchased my first back in March this year a 1990 110 which myself and number 2 son did a trip to the corner country in NSW in late July just before we were locked down. We did a basic swag camp for 12 nights, my son is a keen photographer and took some great pictures and this is where the problem arises. My wife (SWMBO) is also a keen photographer and back before I purchased said 110 was asked whether she would be interested in doing some outback travel to which she replied NO. Now she has seen the photos and wishes to do some outback travel but so eloquently put it “ not in that thing”.
Now I have thought what vehicle would pass her suitability test and I’m quite certain that a Discovery D4 would be suitable (we have previously owned Patrol’s) and my question to you guys is, other than the obvious like regular services (log book) general appearance inside/outside is there any other areas I should be looking at?
My budget puts me in around the 2014-15 build going on what seems to be on Carsales. Thanks in advance Paul.

Paul, being 6 -7 yrs old now part from regular services schedule for other things done and replaced.
the plastics manifolds for crack / splitting, same for the thermostat housing/ plastic, the expansion tank condition. Make sure that all the door lock actuators work. check the control arms and tie rods. for bush wear. these should be road worthy items any way , but if recently done it will save you $in the future,.

Service records are very important,if there are none, move on and keep looking.
Then get the vehicle inspected by a good Indy that specialises in LR's.
Good luck with your purchase.

No official service records on either of my Landies post warranty period [bigwhistle]
I do know who maintains them though [biggrin]

That was the bloody Firearm safe!
Although I did manage to rebuild the front end - fit the Bullbar, new Intercooler etc whilst still recovering.
Lot of effort doing bolts and nuts one handed!

How is the new intercooler Tombie?
Very happy with it, noticed a smoothing of throttle response straight away if that makes sense, and pick up is quicker for sure.
I’m still working on the EGR removal which will lead to an EGT probe going in to enable some monitoring.
Definitely improved responsiveness and power has lifted a noticeable amount.
They do one for the 3.0 and if it does the same uplift in performance I’d recommend it.

Very cool, I'd be interested in both of those mods.

The post warranty period service is no doubt a much better and thorough service than the services done during warranty.[biggrin]
Moving on,i cant remember, but can the Gap tool read intake air temps and also air temperature entering the engine after the intercooler?

Service record, as the other guys said, and I'd check underneath for any damage from off-roading.
