Hey there, first time Land Rover owner and got myself a 1967 Series 2a 109. Recently purchased the Britpart shock absorber full kit from Paddock Spares. Front shocks went on fine but the rear caused more of a headache…. Couldn’t get the nut on the thread.
After checking the receipt, I realised the shocks I bought were for a 1 Ton and now I’m asking the question if I can get away with using them instead of buying a ‘excluding 1 Ton’ shocks kit ?(I don’t want to return shocks to the UK as it will take too long).
Any advice would be much appreciated. I’m a complete newbie at this!
Thanks, Michelle

I have the 1967 2a 109, if you want you can bring them round and see if they fit mine, if they do I'll take them off your hands so you can just buy replacements, Alan at British4wd Seven Mile Beach should be able to get the replacements for you.

A 1 Ton landy should have extended spring hangers and shackles, like the OZ military series landies. These are different to the normal civilian landies and your dampers will be too long to fit your vehicle.

Yes from wiki - The 1 ton was basically a series-IIB forward control built with a standard 109 body. The chassis frame was unique to the model and featured drop-shackle suspension similar to the military series Land Rovers. 900x16 tyres were a standard feature.
You never know though - I would do some measuring of the 1 ton shocks against normal 109 shocks - while unlikely - you never know.

No idea but pics I have seen, seem to indicate it is axle over spring like normal landies.

Hey there Baz, I got them onto my 2a with help from my husband and they were the same length as the ones I removed. Guess they are good!

My husband helped me and got the shocks on and were the same length as the ones we removed.

the one ton came in 2 flavors...
a standard vehicle with uprated springs, brakes and a slightly different tcase gearset
A standard vehicle retro fitted with the heavy springs, some times with, often without the uprated brakes and the stock Tcase
the dedicated version.
the most common ones I've seen in aus are the former 2 , most of the components including the bushings and shocks are the same

I hate to disagree with Dave, but the 'One Ton' was a specific model. It was never sold in Australia, and I have seen no convincing evidence that any were/are ever in Australia.
It had the basic chassis of the Australian military 109 (the design came from Australia) with originally ENV axles, constant mesh low range in the transfer case, lower geared steering box, 9.00x16 tyres and various other minor differences. Most (all?) were six cylinder. It was sold only as ute and cab/chassis. Many of its features were used in the 2B FC.
Not to be confused with conventional 109s uprated to one tonne load.

happy to be wrong, but if its TAC for over 1000kg load its a 1 ton vehicle, just doesnt get teh fancy badge, if someones trying to fit the beefed up shocks and springs from one of those to a stock 88 or 109 you can be in for an interesting time, but its doable.

It might be a 1 ton vehicle, but that does not make it a One Ton Landrover. As I said above, the One Ton was never in Australia, so it is likely that parts specific to the One Ton imported from the UK are unlikely to fit an Australian vehicle (I don't know for sure, but I suspect the shocks though will fit an Australian military one). And it was not just a badge - I'm not even sure that they had a badge, since they were instantly identifiable by the 900x16 tyres and higher suspension.
