My turn for the sad post, today we had to make the hard decision to take Lucy on her last trip to the vet.
She went down rapidly since we were told she had either diabetes or Cushing's disease.
She has been off her food for a few days and anything she did eat was brought up later, mostly blind and deaf , losing bladder control and barely up to get up meant it was her time.
Anyone that met her knew how sweet and gentle and very loyal she was.
Both of my daughters grew up with her and she will be greatly missed by us all.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211008/d178c9c9073afd3de4f3ac3ab39f0a55.jpg

Bugger, so sorry to hear Nick. She’s been to about as many Winter Wombats as I have and all sorts of other camping weekends I’ve been to when you and the family have been there. She was a lovely dog.

It is heart wrenching having to make that decision , You think you should have done more for them but also know it is the best thing you can do for them. It has been around a month since we had to make this decision & still feel guilty think that may be if he may be had had the OP's he would be OK. Thanks to the AULRO members & out Vet Nurse daughter who offered advice I believe we made the rite decision & it was the kindest think we could have done for Pip.

My condolences. What a good looking girl. I wonder if AULRO dogs get together in heaven and talk about the Landies they've ridden in?

She was such a beautiful natured girl and all she wanted was to be near me, the family knew where I was by the sound of her tail wagging and thumping on the floor or against a wall or furniture.
Being stuck at home for the last 18 months with 2 teenage girls and the wife she was my salvation.
We also have 4 cats and they would all greet Lucy in the morning and often share her bed or mat.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211008/c80077a01f287837274379ce616f20d8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211008/884aa908a342635a9707a9698bdfa9a9.jpg

I am also a cat lover. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing a dog and cat sleeping together. Our 4 cats and the 2 dogs all get on well together, our black and white cat Buffy would sit in front of Lucy and reach a paw out to either side of her face as if to hug her.

1 week today and i'm still tearing up at the thought of Lucy not being by my bed when i wake up, i guess we were lucky being in lockdown for so long and me working from home most of the last 18 months.
I was able to take her on 2 camping trips but just missed out her last walk on the beach which was her next favourite activity.

well, Ellie is defying the vet , not actually , because the vet put her on Prednisolone , which has several different names , and my daughter (who has veterinary health and dietry certificates) recommended a product called Bone Gold.
I have also put her on the Pet Food Australia hemp oil food and between the three products she is looking better than she has for 6 mths.
I know this is only delaying the inevitable but it makes me happy to see her trying to be an Australian Red Kelpie again.
It's good to give a happy report though.

I am also a cat lover. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing a dog and cat sleeping together.
My brother sent me a picture a few days ago of the new rug that his daughter bought for their oldest dog - occupied by a large orange cat, that has taken it up as part of his territory!
My brother tells me his bed is shared with his wife, three dogs and four cats. (all the animals are rescued strays)

Dear Loanrangie,
I am so sorry for your loss.
The love of a good dog is blessed.
I sincerely hope that your pain will soon be replaced with the wonderful memories of the great times you have had together, over so many years.

....So it lasted 9 days.....inevitabley Ellie wasnt good enough to make it through today successfully , she lost total control this afternoon and I took her to the vet at 3pm.
....then I buried her alongside another old mate.... saluted her with a Jack Daniels.....my daughter and son came over to help dig......but the grief didn't really hit me until I washed the shovels etc off and for the first time in just under 13yrs she wasn't there to bark at and attack the hose.......
......will I do it a 4th time? .......probably can't live without a canine friend.
my heart goes out to anyone going through or having gone through the same grief.....

Sorry to hear this, their passing certainly leaves a huge hole in your life. We didn't get pushed into having another dog although there was plenty of advice.
The dog would probably outlive us & that ain't fair on the dog.

Well almost 6 weeks ago and although we had decided not to look for another dog, we have now adopted Billy.
His elderly owners were going to hand him in to a shelter and my mates dad was looking after him so he called me and sent some pics and a video.
Not sure what breed he is but he is gentle and well trained and a demon with a ball.
Very energetic and loves to run, he also lived with a cat which was a plus.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211115/dcf8c53d847bf2917a274af281e1d485.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211115/5e271a776f25ce63a81c19c0a8f7df0f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211115/984ec8cb06544d8152ad2cce940993a3.jpg

Would suggest a Scottish Terrier X with Rough Coated Jack Russel leanings. Possibly.[bighmmm]
Edited. 16/11. Apparently Scottish Terrier is it's correct name.
