We are heading off to the mouth of the Fortescue river for an extended fishing camping trip on Thursday [bigrolf]

Heaps of 4WD TRACKS, Islands, Reefs and plenty of creeks full of mud crabs to enjoy.
I have pretty much loaded the D2a, 79 series, caravan and boat up with enough gear/provisions to last us 4 to 6 weeks and with fuel and water easilly available within 50k's it should be a nice relaxing trip.

It's been well over a year or so since we have been away because of the threat of COV19 and waiting for vaccinations (both of them) and then waiting untill October when most of the grey nomads will have wandered back down south so that the place should be pretty much empty before we venture out so I am prety toey to get up there now[thumbsupbig]

I will do my best to remember to take the fishy pic's before I release or fillet them so that I can post them here[biggrin]

Are you sure that's safe? I'm sure I read somewhere recently on this forum that being out in the fresh air can still spread COV19 resulting in pestilents and death and is a big no-no![tonguewink]

Presumably you'll be masking up so you don't give the fish COV19?! Gawd, that's the last thing we need...

2 more sleeps to go[biggrin]
loaded all the fresh stores today and topped up the booze supplies.
We get up there on the start of the neap tides so the muddies should be on the crawl, Looking forwar to a good feed of muddies.

What is your problem?
It took ages for both of us to get fully immunised here in WA and by that time it was the high season and the campsite would have been packed with people so this is the reason why we have delayed our trip.
The last thing I want to do is camp up in a crowded site, Thats Not why we go bush.
I much prefer to listen to the sounds of the bush than listen to screaming kids and a whole bunch of gensets ticking away[thumbsupbig]

We arrived at the Mouth of the Fortescue river about 9am 6esterday and the campgrounds are completely empty as i had planned [bigrolf] [bigrolf]

Set up a rough camp yesterday and will refine it today which hopefully will give me time to get some livebaits and get a feed of mangrove jacks off the oyster rocks for tea.
It is going to blow up for a few days so it looks like I will be confined to the river for a bit which is quite OK as there are plenty of fish/crabs to be had there.
We have plenty of time to wait for good weather so we can play outside amongst the offshore islands getting into the reef fish Mackrell etc.

Spent an hour or so mucking about with the crab pots, No muddies but I did manage a nice blue swimmer.
The fishing in the river was quite good and we caught 6x estuary cod and 8 jacks.
We kept a couple of the jacks for dinner and released everything else.

There's a reason why I haven't posted many fishy pics, I haven't caught much sadly[bawl]
We are heading down to Exmouth on Tuesday for a week or two to try our luck there and the missus can get to go to the beach (No decent beaches here) , She can also catch up with the "goss" from here Niece and I can finally put a Full days fishing in on my own[bigrolf]

2 to 3 hours on the boat is her limit and that makes it hard for me to find the fish.
I am heading out from here "solo" tomorrow ( the missus wants to do the washing) and if I still don't catch anything decent then I will have to wear the blame myself, Lets see what happens[biggrin]

Well I put a Full days fishing in an only ould manage 4 sized reef fish, So it wasn't the missus fault at all.
I did count 7 boats in the area I was fishing so I put the lack of fish to the area getting hammered[bawl]

We are now in Exmouth for a while But November is always pretty windy here unfortunately BUT it only takes a couple of good days at the Murion islands to get a good feed of fish:[thumbsupbig]

I flushed the outboard with fresh water after the last trip and stupidly left the flush plug on the transom and lost it on the way to Exmouth, Hopefully I can get a replacement before Sunday when some decent weather is being forecasted.

I spoke with the local boat mechanic about getting a new flush plug and he told me it will take about a week to get one sent in.
He then told me that all I have to do is to get a 3/4 nylon plug and some thread tape from the miter 10 store across the the road and that will do the job.
$6 for 2x plugs and a roll of tape and the jobs done[bigrolf][bigrolf]

The locals call November "Blowvember" and with strong wind warnings for today and tomorrow the nickname is quite apt So it looks like today will be a "Tikky tour" day to look for some land based fishing areas that I can try untill the winds drop.

Thanks Mate.
At least the boat is the cleanest and as organised as it can possibly be now due to the extended period of being stuck on the beach.
Blowing again today so it looks like the D2a will get a "Birthday" as well.

I have managed to garner quite a bit of local knowledge from the Niece's husband and a couple of his RAAF workmates who are all keen boaties/fishermen So hopefully I can turn that info into hookups when I finally hit the water[thumbsupbig]
