The LR au website now says the 90 Commercial model will be available in Au in 2021? Anyone know any more? my dealer was unaware of the change, but I would change my 90 S order that Ive been waiting for in a heartbeat for a commercial version..

Commercial models are unique to the UK ( and particular European countries such as France) and are tailored to avoid paying VAT.
The vehicles are VAT free if used for business and having certain attributes such as no side windows,no rear seats, a cargo barrier etc.
The system in Australia is quite different.

They'd probably sell a motza if they were in the dealerships
It's the kind of thing I'm looking for.

^^ I agree.
A SWB (aka 90) without side windows the cargo space could be far better utilised which with a SWB is very desirable.

There is a green(?) Commercial 110 Defender running around near my work that I haven't mananged to catch hold of, as I wanted to ask how they went about importing it.

LRA brought some in for evaluation. No doubt they have been offered to some VIP customers to trial.
The commercial version of the 90 looks very neat and practical. Perfect for work and play.
Will be interesting to see where they price them. My guess $1K below the equivalent non-commercial version.

Correct, but won't make a difference in Au as the rego/tax is based on tare weight and business/private rego, they are stated as being available in Au this year which would be great.

If it can carry 1000KG,has 5 seats or less,no LCT.....
Somehow i dont think so,it wont carry the weight and suspension cant be modded to suit.
The commercial market is pretty clogged with a lot of competition, but there is no 4WD van in the same category.
Even so,i doubt it will sell in huge numbers.

It would be great! "Lord Muck" on youtube did a review on one recently. completely flat load space with a reasonable capacity and the option of having 3 seats in the front is great. Convert the blanked out side windows to gull wings and you would have a very usable and accessible space in the back. Not sure if the commercial version has EAS as an option.

Rear seats are wasted on me. If ever the chance comes to convert my 110 into a commercial I’d likely do it, just with a different load restraint bulkhead. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211014/17f67ef3e569dcc1a8157c09d143fbf6.jpg

Not having a go at the poster of the pic,but it is a good example of a situation where a proper cargo barrier should be fitted.
By proper,i mean a solid steel type such as Milford, etc.

It is a good example, I agree. What doesn’t show is the tie down straps for the fridge and anything with weight. The Landrover mesh cargo barrier in the middle gives some reassurance for lighter stuff but this topic is about the practicality of the commercial version. A van like space with an effective bulkhead takes all this effort away.

That is if there is one available, there is nothing heavy duty available for the current range.

I made a barrier for my L322.

It’s the cargo barrier in the commercial versions which I’m talking about. From what I’ve read on the UK forums there a few that want to convert their commercials into passenger vehicles and get rid of the heavy duty, load restraining bulkhead. I have them in all my work vans and they are far better than a Milford cargo barrier as they cut down noise, don’t have gaps and have more securing points to bolt them in.

I would have 110 commercial in a heartbeat. Starting to get a bit worried how I am going to load my D250 S 110 (coming in December) for the desert trips I love to do. Have a really good system for my current D4.
On another note Rhino4x4 here in Mornington have designed a proper bar for the Defender, not yet in production but coming soon. Spoke to them this morning, they are expecting a prototype December sometime.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with.
Most, if not all of their bars are bumper replacement only,so not a full bar.

I noticed that the Australian Land Rover site is offering the Hardtop in 90 and 110 variants:
