My mate who also is my neighbour is a postie. About 4 years ago he was on his mail run on a Aus post motor bike. He was travelling on the road had just rounded a corner over the road when he was struck by a 4WD from behind. The driver of the 4WD had dropped a drink bottle on floor and was reaching down to grab it and had his eyes off the road and hit my mate. My mate sustained injuries to various parts of his body and had surgery performed.

My mate still quite a bit of pain and takes pain medication every day.
He has bad on restricted duties for some time.

2 weeks ago he was given the green light to return to normal activities.
So a couple days later he was delivering mail to a group of shops and was in the carpark when a car reversed out and hit him knocking him over and ran over his foot.

So now he has screws holding the top foot foot bones together, apparently it's not uncommon that our posties have work place injuries.

Wow. That sucks. Injuries are very common with moto police too.

Our postie is a crap one unfortunately. Bends all the "do not bend" stuff and rips up my nature strip all through winter. He's a grumpy bastard as well. Always scowls at me or the kids.

Loved our Postie- Chris- sadly they moved him to Parcel Delivery and I have yet to chat with our new one.

It can be dangerous walking, Diving, riding, Driving, going to work, sitting down to much. Love life and live it[thumbsupbig]

A postie friend of mine got knocked off his bike. He was supervising a new postie, from behind. A car driver was reversing out of his driveway and carefully waited for the postie to pass. He explained, most apologetically, that he didn't expect two posties.
Same fellow dropped his bike on the gravel, semicircular drive of the official house of the Archbishop, letting out a litany of profanities at the top of his voice. When the Archbishop, himself, came to the door, the irreverent postie apologised profusely. The holy man chuckled and said his language would have been worse, had he crashed a bike.

Next door Nieghbour works for Aust Post - used to be a Postie but had an accident on a run one day and only had one leg now so does something at the mail centre now as he’s not allowed to ride for a living (even though he can with his prosthetic).

In the burbs riding a motorbike on the footpath is always going to be problematic.

I think your Postie's twin works out my way.

Yeah ... try being a motorbike courier for 7 out of 10 years too!

Don't matter that you mind your own business just trundling along like all other traffic ... their claim that they "didn't see 'ya" is the management doublespeak way of explaining that they just didn't look! [bighmmm]

The postie over here has a small van or walks depending on the area being rural or urban. Never seen one on any other transport

Had a Kiwi postie for a few years. Was out walking in shorts no matter the weather - sun, rain or snow

Kiwis are like that. The first person we saw when visiting Arrowtown in the South Island on a skiing trip, early evening in the dead of mid winter at about -2C was a local dressed in shortS and a T shirt, exiting a milk bar holding a double ice cream. 😳

Sounds like you have the same postie as us we found our mail in the middle of the road the other day . Also he has gone from 5 days to 3 days & now 2 days a week.

Out postal service is a joke in Aus. In England if you order something before 5pm, the postal service will deliver it by 8am the next day! WTF?

Also if I order from the UK from Paddocks etc it's twice as quick as getting a package from WA, NSW or QLD delivered? What the hell?

A letter through the post to someone in my town takes 5-9 business days. It's just a joke.

Actually no in suburban Brisbane . It is getting to the stage we keep receiving accounts after the pay by date. I like getting paper a/c's that way I can put them on a clip in order of payment & don't forget them , with electronic ones I general forget to pay.[bighmmm]

My post arrives generally before midday not 8 am. Most online next day delivery is usually order before 3 pm for next day which will be pay extra for a courier not Royal Mail

Then there is the difference between the promise and actual delivery. Ordered a drill from a major online Plc which said could deliver next day via courier. Arrived 3 working days later which if you read the fine print was within terms. Not happy as wanted to use it on the Saturday but arrived on the following Tuesday

Have had 3 messages from a courier firm saying need to rearrange for delivery of a parcel. Have ignored as they have not attempted to deliver anything so probably a scam. Now thinking it might be a parcel that a friend has now rung and asked if something they sent has arrived

Our Postie drives a Land Cruiser, delivers twice a week & she is nice. Picks up our outgoing at the same time. The fact that during the wet we get no post does not count against the Postie.

I just resurrected the Australia Post thread.....

....this thread is about posties falling off their bikes and getting bitten on the ankles.....isn't it?

As per every other thread on here, they all seem to go off topic and/or hijacked to cure someone else’s ailment
Any ways, they all seem to be a good read and one day may even solve the world’s problems [emoji12]

My son used to be a postie. He had no worries about being hit though.

He delivered in this.

Did he actually land or just drop the mail out by parachute, in the outback I'm guessing?

He had to land as he also had to collect outgoing mail and take back to the post office..

I did the run with him once, which made it easier as I would do the getting out of the plane and deliver pick up mail.

Below is a pic at one of the letter boxes and a sample of the landing strips. Sometimes there were animals on or near so we would buzz them and do a fly around to land.

All up we went to about 32 stations. Took about 6 hours.
