Not very happy and unprofessional in my opinion. I rang my Neurologist today as my last appointment was a telehealth appointment over the phone. Normally his consulting rooms reception ring me to make another appointment. Since August no one has rang me, even when I rang them before my recent hospital stay, he didn't return my call. So today I rang the consulting rooms only to be told he has moved to NZ and is not practising in Australia any more. I think it is very unprofessional not to be told this earlier. Now I need to get referred to some one else and go through every thing from the beginning again.

My wife suffers from depression & anxiety, This sounds like my wife's Psychiatrist, since Covid he only dose phone consults , if she has an appointment for 10am she is lucky if he calls by 10.30 , most times he is 1 to 1.5 hr's late & sometimes dose not call at all . If we call to find out when he will be calling no one ever answers the phone & when she leaves a message on one will ever call back. This dose not help the anxiety at all. We have looked for another Psychiatrists but none are taking any more patients so we have to stick with him. Back when we could visit him he was always running late & the hospital he works you have to pay for parking before parking & when he is late you receive a heavy fine in the post , I always allowed an extra hour & some times that was not enough. When he changes her medication he never sends a letter to our GP so when she needs a repeat she has to try to get on to the Psychiatrist & some times runs out of medication while waiting to get back to her.
Finding a good caring doctor is like trying to find a good LR mechanic & unfortunately they eventually retire , our GP is near that time & is catching up on all his long service leave so he tends to be away more & more.

Ask if you can be on the waiting list for appointments for that one and ask your Doc for another option.

Its absolutely awful they do this. I had one of mine do the same! We were mid way through tests and investigations. Not even got results. He always made the appointments, then I never heard again. Waited a bit then tried chase it up, and he'd moved interstate! The offices should have absolutely let clients know!

My Doctors get me to chat to other practice managers at time- Just saying[bigwhistle] It works best if your Doctor calls the specialist mobile number for a chat. If your Doc doesnt have that secret number it is the whims of the waiting lists. If the issue is serious push it. If not be patient.

Not surprised, it seems to happen a lot when the practicing person says "Up yours I'm off to greener/richer pastures" but does not tell anyone but the staff.

Has happened about 4 times here that I know about (but not yet to me) [bighmmm]

Folk have a GP for years & they can't even have the courtesy to advise patients of them moving on. It was put to me that if the Practice is sold then it can reduce the stock of clients thereby devaluing the sale price. Dunno, just seems a bit odd & rude not to tell people.

Neurologist ? Maybe he/she needs their head looked at?

Who has access to & owns your notes, btw?

If the Doc is generally ok then you need to consider they may have had a bastard of a day listening to other people's problems.

Not summat I'd be cut out to do.[bighmmm]

Specialists in this field are few and between, since my condition is terminal and deteriorating and I was under the previous neuros care with medications to give me a bit better quality of life. I know my time is coming and i am fighting a losing battle. But to rely on some one for your care only to be source of income and nothing else it seems, not even passing me on the some one else makes me angry. So I have to start over again, 7 months is valuable time lost for those of us with this condition plus $500 initial consultation

Makes me wonder what he was running from?
a similar thing happened when my wife gave birth to or last child by cesarean, the doctor just vanished over night. It’s no wonder either, he made such a mess of the job she was never able to have anymore kids after.

Fair point and more than fair to be angry Mario. I thought about the Prior one and think that's an whole issue by it self mate. Why didn't the one leaving hand you over to a suitable specialist to ensure continuity of care??

If one of my Doctors goes on a holiday they spend almost a week "handing over" notes and instructions to another Doctor to ensure the high care people they have are not left hanging or worse! I am not certain about the specialist code of conduct yet suspect they have a obligation to ensure your are covered before they took off?
You might like to ask APHRA via phone 1300 419 495 or Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency - Complaints and feedback about us (https://www.ahpra.gov.au/About-Ahpra/Complaints.aspx)

I would first try and ring the specialist that left asking if they took any steps to not leave you with out specialist care. You may like to chat with your Doc on that one or let rip via a complaint about the prior specialist leaving you high and dry.

At least he hung around until the Birthing was done. Sounds like he didn't actually bugger off mid Ces.

Or maybe he did? [bighmmm]

Thought.

Maybe one day someone will discover a Tropic Island covered in GPs, Neurologists etc & thousands of others from the Medical Profession who decided it was all getting a bit too hard & buggered off.?

No good yelling out for James in the crowd, he'll still be here battling on trying to help people.:TakeABow:
