I think for penrite, transgear 75w-80 is the go for r380

75-80(5) is fine in cooler climes ime
75-90 in warmer climes
85-140 salisbury diff
85-90 rover diff

I use motul pro gear oil 75w-80 $45 a Liter and it's been great in my Ashcroft r380

80 - 140 in a R380 box could you even change gears while cold?
Others have well covered this..
*I use Penrite Pro Gear 75W90 or problematic boxes 70W75

As above , but make sure the 75-90 is gl-4 in the gearbox. I've seen the result on brass syncros with gl-5
I was using motul gear 300 in the r380's but have recently ( since they released it) switched to penrite gl-4 75-90 , can't tell the difference shift wise and easier to get.

Do you recommend the Pro Gear for Transfer case and Diffs?
I have been using the Trans Gear (semi-synth) which is GL-4.
The container sizes for the Pro Gear go from 2.5l to 20l so I'll probably have to hit up my Penrite guy for a good price on a 20l.

As far as I know, the 75-90 trans gear is still GL-5 , I'd keep using it for the transfer case and diffs.
Also still a good choice for truetrac / ashcroft torque biasing diff centres.

Yes, you are correct. I was thinking of Trans gear 75-80 which is available as GL-4.
I have just checked and I have in fact been using Valvoline Duragear 75-90 which is GL-5 (as specified the RAVE Ops manual).
My oil guy changed from Valvoline to Penrite, so have followed him over. Both good oils in my book...
I'll check pricing for Pro-gear v Trans-gear when I buy for my next oil change. Good to see Pro-gear is available in 75w-90 GL-5.
cheers..

Thanks all I am thinking of putting Penrite semi systematic oil in my R380 Penrite say it is comparable to MTF94 I have in the past used Nulon G70 additive and will do the same this time. Haven't used this oil before so if someone has I would be interested in what they think it's Trans gear 75w-80.

If your thinking of semi synthetic like this post then the trans gear 75/80 gl4 is fine and what penrite recommend .

After consulting with Rick130 I've decided to go Motul Gear 300 in the LT230, R380, Salisbury and front diff across both my 130's. Was keen to simplify the oils I have on hand, one drum, one pump etc.
Suppliers in 20L drums were special order through local autobarn for approx $35/L and then just after I placed my order found I could get a drum delivered to my door through Autosphere (http://www.autosphere.com.au) for $30/L.
