Gents,
getting continued rear e.diff faults which are cascading into transfer case faults. Indicates stuck clutches in the diff. I can run the self test routine and TC calibration routines which will clear the faults temporarily.

Wondering if it needs a diff oil change? LR indy said the oil looked ok at last service but I am thinking it must be well over due.

thoughts?

cheers
Peter

More likely a controller issue I would have thought. But you should be changing the diff oil regularly anyway. No more than 60,000km, significantly less if towing, 4WD'ing or mostly city driving.

I'll get some BOT720 and some TC oil from LR on sunnie coast and see what it does. [bigwhistle]

hopefully it is not the ECU but cleaning the connectors would be the next step. [bawl]

I'm thinking the actuator may be on it's way out as the error is there all the time. I can drive the vehicle normally thank goodness and it is not going into limp mode, no Christmas tree lights on the dash.

From what I have been reading of the P0186 fault it indicates an issue with the magnetic brake in the actuator. Some threads on other sites about cleaning this which fixes the problem.

Has anybody had any success cleaning this?

Have not been able to find any info on where this magnetic brake actually is in the actuator.

I found these couple of photos on a Sth Africa 4x4 community page where they explain about cleaning the magnetic brake.

I'll add this to my list of jobs for when my back is not sore!
