Friday, new noise from right rear, associated with suspension. Found shock extending into passenger compartment, and top mount rubber displaced. The lower washer (boot retainer) had been pushed down the shock shaft, allowing shaft to project through top mount into passenger compartment as the suspension compressed. The washer looked like one of those push-on star lock axle caps. I used the grinder to cut it away, and looks like I have saved the chrome shock shaft.
Pic 1 shows complete assembly after removal, with boot reattached, and new top mount.
Pic 2 shows boot removed and 'washer' in correct position, on top of the shock shaft.
Pic 3 close up of the washer, after removal.

Can't find any references to this washer, so looking for advice for part number, or more likely that someone has one of these left on an old shock.

Any dimensions?

It looks like a relatively common shock cup. If so Toy ones are thick, gal and strong.

Eye watering price from Toyota ($6 each 15 or more years ago) but any aftermarket 4wd drive joint will have buckets of them. Got mine for nix and are fine after 200k km.

End result was to call local Land Rover dealer, wait 2 days, and parts supplied .... LR Australia carry stock because there is steady requirements. LR Recommend that the washers be replaced with shocks.
