View Full Version : L320 Dual Battery Setup, what isolator is required

Hi, I have a 2010 Range Rover L320 that I want to have a dual battery lead to my small Teardrop Camper which has its own battery and be able to charge from the RR.
What setup and Isolators are required, I see for L322 there is space in the rear for a second battery but not in the L320, so thinking of running an Anderson Plug to the rear and have a DC2DC CHarger in the Teardrop Camper to charge the Camper battery.
I assume the L320 has the 'smart Alternator', is this correct? And therefore needs a separate setup.

Hi Warren and you do NOT need a DC/DC device in your Camper.

Your RRS will not only charge any number of batteries in your RRS and camper, but it will do it far quicker than any DC/DC device could hope to do.

As to an auxiliary battery in your RRS, depending on the year model, any of my D3 or D4 kits will have an auxiliary battery fitted under the bonnet, with heavy cabling run to the rear bumper, again, you will have no problems charging all three batteries quicker than any other dual battery system available.

I have many D3 and D4 owners ( and RRS owners ), who tow caravans with as many as 3 large house batteries, and they not only don’t have any problems charging all their batteries, they regularly give me feedback about trips they have had, where their mates, with DC/DC devices, after being stopped for a day or two in one spot, have had to idle their vehicles for hours, trying to get some charge back their house batteries, while my customer just sit back and enjoy their cold ones.

By all means get one of Drivesafes systems and if wanted put a aux battery in front of the main battery or in the brake box in front of the driver.

I have gone the cheap basic system - I just have run a fused cable from the positive cable on the car's battery to the rear of the car with an andersen plug. As Drivesafe has indicated the RRS system is quite capable of charging both the car battery and the deep cycle battery in my camper and with 110ah available in the camper and up to 90ah from the car battery I really do not have to disconnect the camper from the car when stopped when travelling - but of course you must not forget to disconnect the car from the camper when camped.

If I have an issue with a low car battery I can charge through the andersen plug.
