Belt shredded as my wife pulled into the driveway luckily, I believe the belt part is LR22803 from Landrover. Has anyone bought one from another supplier or know the length. I checked all the guides etc and doesnÂ’t appear to be any play in them. My Voque has 180,000 klms on the clock whatÂ’s the lifespan of the guides etc and was just wondering anyoneÂ’s experience with lifespan of alternator, planning a few trips next year and was thinking of replacing all guides and alternator, previous owners dealer service history has none of these replaced, thanks in advance

I can't help with the belt itself but the tensioner is known to wear its pivot allowing the belt to run off the edge. Mine's still tracking acceptably but I'll be replacing the tensioner with a genuine LR one before the belt gets to the edge. Non-genuine tensioners have been known to not track true from the outset.

Thanks Graeme, I just read on full fat about replacing the tensioner as it caused the guys belt to move offline, once replaced the belt ran true, still researching wether to replace alternator as preventative maintenance whilst I’ve got everything out.

The 4.4's 220A alternators seem to survive much longer than D4 alternators even though they're the same brand and use Zener diodes for over-voltage control, probably because the 4.4's alternators/diodes have a considerably higher current capacity and therefore most of the time are operating well below the diodes' maximum current capacity and not deteriorating so quickly. The voltage at which Zener diodes reverse conduct decreases as the diodes age and that reverse conduct voltage lowering to normal alternator voltage is what goes wrong and causes the alternator to go short circuit.
