Who'd have thought, my D2 has an oil leak. :-)
I've had a leak since I bought it, but now - again - trying to pinpoint and fix.
Here's a pic taken under blue light and the green is the bit of oil damming up. It doesn't appear to be from the filter or centrifugal filter housing, as I had changed them a while back and they were dry.
Any thoughts about this?

Did you change the O ring behind the rotor filter housing? , they flatten out and leak over time

Haven't checked oil cooler, as I'll need to dismantle a lot of stuff. So trying to see if there are any low-hanging fruit here!

Thanks for the reply.
I take it getting the rotor filter housing off is quite the mission, judging by the diagram?
Bolts 13, 14 and 16 the only ones needed to remove it?

3x 10mm head bolts on the housing ( use 1/4" drive with extensions to access )
2x 10mm head nuts on the bottom of the oil drain to sump
then the whole unit will come out if you twist as you lift.

I had an oil leak on the LHS of the engine, checked and replaced everything including sump gasket before bitting the bullet and removing the turbo to gain access to the rotor filter housing. Fairly easy job once the turbo was out of the way.

These are great quality shots, thanks for sharing. Really good to get an understanding of what one would be facing.
Did you try and remove rotor filter housing without turbo removed? Or is it simply not worth the pain. :-)

Hi Rymnd,
I didn't try with the turbo in place, but having a quick look I think it could be possible by reaching up from underneath. You may need to be a bit of a contortionist.

Would think the top right bolts would be very difficult with turbo insitu, having removed and replacing it a couple of times over the last few months. May be a good opportunity to replace the turbo innards as an upgrade when it is out - will be doing the D2a oil cooler and water pump when I change the turbo innards as a matter of course. The water pump on the D2 on a well serviced vehicle was a complete surprise!!

Hmmmm… something had gone very wrong with the coolant balance and or composition during the engine’s lifetime. It should be looking better than that. Mine has had 450,000km+ on OAT coolant and the water pump came out looking new.

As the engine only has 260 and at one stage had a head change as well, was not good!!

My car has about the same k's and what appears to be a newish head too. I know for a fact the PO thought swamp water made good coolant. With its tendency to run warmish, I reckon the water pump will look very similar.

So took turbo off as I replaced oil. cooler as well, replaced seals and gaskets and put turbo back.
Now I can seem to get socket and torque wrench in to torque turbo to exhaust manifold.
Any ideas or wisdom or special tools? 😊
