Help fairly Urgent - driver door latch has locked over and the handle has no traction

Pretty much that is it. I think perhaps the latch was only half open when the door closed. So the handle just isnt doing anything. Anyone know?? I’m driving to Pipalyatjara via Ernabella - currently just arrived in Coober Pedy - and just feel it’s annoying and a bit dangerous not to be able to get out.

I got stuck in once when the button head machine screw on the X-Trouser door strikers came loose. If its not screwed in all the way it can stop the door from opening. If you don't have those 'special' strikers - then you can rule that out.

thanks John - I don’t k own what most of those things are except the striker. I also don’t know if it’s a ‘special’ (ie annoying?) one but guess it’s original 1989. I have tried to toggle the thingy that moves when I lift the other handle, the thing that moves aside and releases the latch, and wonder if that is futile and do I need to replace the whole thing - and then - is that simple? I’m going to have to bring one back with me after my Christmas break

If it’s an old Perentie - it won’t have an X striker.

These old Perenties get worn strikers / latches.

You will have to climb in from the passenger side and try and watch what is happening.

You can adjust the striker and hopefully lift it up or down. It depends on what is happening.

i bought a new mechanism as the old one was broken somehow. Boy it was fun trying to get it out with makeshift tools! And I fitted the new one but the striker is a couple of mm too deep. I can’t adjust it up enough. So I put the old one in that I butchered to get out, but the lock still feels sticky. Also when I refitted the lock barrel, the door jammed again so I had to take it all off again - a bit easier this time. Now I’m concerned that somethings up with that stickiness. I don’t mind going keyless for a while until I can get the car back to klr, but is there a trick to adjusting the whole thing so it doesn’t need an extra shove when I try to open the door? I don’t want to break this one! When I get a minute I can take some photos. Thanks for any help/advice.
