View Full Version : Coffs Harbour trip

DRanged
15th July 2006, 08:58 PM
Ok august 11th to 14th locked in for this trip. Convoy will be leaving Tweed Heads AM on the friday for the early starters. All participants must be GCLRO members. I will need to know numbers asap as I am booking accomadation within the next 10 days. I need to know who would like to share a Villa that sleeps 6 people ie anyone going on there own. Powered sites are also available if you want to take your van or tent.
Also how many familys are going as they have cabins that sleep 5. To secure our bookings I will need a deposit when the time comes so pls make sure these dates are ok.
I am waiting on a reply from the Coffs Harbour 4wd club to see if a joint trip can be arranged as we may be able to run 2-3 seperate trips a day to keep the numbers down for each convoy hence more areas covered for everyone.

Will keep you updated
Justin

SAFETY INFORMATION: ALL PARTICIPANTS ON THIS TRIP MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING BASIC EQUIPMENT - UHF, BASIC RECOVERY KIT, FIRST AID KIT, FIRE EXTINGUISHER, APPROPRIATE FOOT WEAR.
Please do not place the trip leaders in the embarrasing situation of having to deny your attendance due to lack of safety equipment.
OTHER INFO: All participants must be GCLRO members. This will be a great trip for families or individuals with the suggested accommodation being only 50m from the beach and around 6klm north of The Big Banana. From Tweed Heads the trip to Coffs Harbour takes around 4-5 hours – depending on family stops etc. We have enlisted the assistance of a contact in Coffs who knows the area very well and has offered to be our guide for part of the weekend. A local 4x4 club has also been contacted to see if they can assist us in any way.
SUGGESTED ITINERARY: Depending on numbers and different track gradings, we will probably split into 2-3 separate groups for each days driving – this will keep numbers manageable and allow each member to choose their level of driving difficulty. Friday will no doubt be spent getting to Coffs Harbour and settling into our accommodation. Saturday and Sunday will be spent driving and depending on track locations, we may come back each day for lunch to the caravan park or pack a lunch.

Details for this trip may be changed at any time so please check back before finalising plans.

I'm in  was covering this with work today and have leave booked 11th - 14th August.
Will go the comfort factor and stay in a Villa as there will be a lot of hard driving and it will be a pleasant change to be able to take it easy if the weather turns bad at night.
Happy to share a Villa.

Travelling down in two vehicles as the ladies in my family are only coming down on Friday night, so have 5 spare seats and an empty trailer, so have plenty of room for your family to join us, not quite the D3 but does have leather, climate control, cruise just no Sat Nav, but hey in convoy on Friday morning wont need it.:D Hey we will even let you wear your shorts  . So that will be a cabin for Stevo and Family. The best thing about coming down you can then jump into a range of Landy's and get free test drives to see what to purchase from D2 to 110 to classic rangies. I think that your more a D2 man though.

Drange - Spoke to the park and asked if they had got all GCLRO members in the same area or cabins and villas next to everyone, she said they had spread us out, not sure what she meant:o, although great rates, have to say.

To those who are still up in the air about this trip, park have advised that all the cabins are now booked and have only a few villa's left, so you need to get quick otherwise it will be camping spaces only.

Hi all - just dropped in and seen this planned trip for 11-14?
Considering coming for a trip. What is the cost of a villa/cabin?
What level of driving will we be doing? If no more technical than Land Rover Park then interested.

I can't find a summary of the trip so from what I have read the plan is to leave Friday am - come back Monday? Correct?

Dear Justin

Not sure what maps you refer to - topographical?
I have used Phil Myers of Coast Maps & Charts - Shop A56 Harbourtown Shopping Centre - to source maps of Qld and NSW before.

www.coastmaps.com.au (http://www.coastmaps.com.au)
ph 07 5537 2287
0417 356 968

When I need a map now I just ring Phil, ask for the maps I need and give him my credit card details to charge me for the maps - normally a small 2-3 $ charge for packaging and postage (not worth driving there for the cost).

I have found this shop very helpful and they order in if they do not have the topgraphical map you need (I have found they hold most maps).

Please can everyone take the time to read the trip requirements and make the necessary arrangemnts for each vehicle to assist the trip leaders and all those attending the weekend.

Maybe go out to a pub one of the nights Greenhouse taverns not bad and its on the northside of town

A sunday night group BBQ at the caravan park and invite the local guys as a thankyou, we all pitch in a few bucks to cover there food and drinks

Pub night also good, saves me cooking. Rest BYO, easier on all IMO :)

I like weeds idea for a Thank You BBQ for the locals but as for the rest of the meals, I would prefer to buy it on the run and use the time saved from cooking to do more driving.

Just a suggestion, plus I’m a ****e of a cook.

Cheers.

BBQ on the sunday is a good idea as a thankyou. As for the rest of the meals its up to the individual as I think the cabins and Villas have cooking facilities and we do have a communal bbq. As there are also wives and families coming along the idea will be to get a good balance between driving as well as a bit of socialising.

I will have mygarmin etrex base model, I have an external antenna now so I should be able to navigate withheavy tree cover, the last time I was in coffs I got lost for half an hour or so when I was playing in and around rover trail was driving around holding the gps out the window for reception, withe fenders having a vertical windscreen the gps on the dash does not see much sky.

Thanks Craig and Kevin, I am thinking about getting one but have only seen them used in the most basic way, ( at the counter in a shop ) so I would appreciate seeing them working and seeing how well they do help.

Cheers and this weekend is shaping up to be a ripper.

PS. so far Coffs weather for Saturday is rain, could be VERY interesting.

I use a Garmen as a speedo and sometimes I try to look like I know what I am doing and can map the tracks we have been on. I will get the instructions out and have a look. Will try and remember how to plot the caravan park as a home point so at least we can get back to that point at the end of the day.
Whatever the weather it will be a good weekend away I,m sure

Justin, bring your instructions along and we will all learn at the same time ( or get just as lost as you ).

From what I’ve heard about the number of and different types of tracks around Coffs, I don’t think the weather is going to have any effect other that to give us more variety.

And If things do get so bad, there is always the 4x4 show just south of Coffs.

Cheers.

PS just joking about the 4x4 show, it’s at Wauchope, at least 2 hours south.

As we are leaving from Tweed at 10, we won’t get to coffs much before 2ish and by the time we get settled in, there won’t be much time for more than a bit of site seeing I would imagine, so I don’t think you will miss anything.

See the there when ever you get there.

Cheers.

yep happy to convoy if it works in, umm can i keep up, well the fender sits on the speed limit OK including the 110 zones, if qld rail run on time i will be leaving the brighton station at 4pm ish

for all you petrol guzzlers keep an eye out for a few places with really cheap fuel before you get to coffs, it can be around 10c/L cheaper, don't know how they do it as qld have the 8c or what ever it is discount, its probably being smuggled over the border, we always fill falcon at woodburn, its a bit over half way and grab a feed as well, nice spot on the river, a playground for the kids to burn some energy, its a no name station, they have the option of an ethonol mix as well which is even cheaper again, when i stick with the normal stuff though, the last cheap fuel is just be grafton i think, just thinking about it there one place between grafton and coffs as well, half way creek, something like that

are the fender should do the round trip on the one tank, well that if we were not driving around the forests so i may need a splash of oil opps i mean diesel to get me home

Weeds and Caveman, I'll be leaving about 2-3pm whenever I finish work. I possibly go the back way through Beaudesert, Kyogle and Casino, etc.. I hate the cost road and it's easier for me anyway as I am located out that way.

The Rangie ready to roll now, bring it on

Weeds, if it has the RCA outlets (the yellow/white/red), I can play it through the DV cam. I carry all the leads in my bag so that's not an issue.
