Can anyone provide me with an Australian supplier to sell me a Brush Box or Brushes for this alternator. All Tasmanian agents advise that spares are not available however they can supply a new unit for $800+.

Untested but it appears the bearings for this alternator are B15-69 T12DDWNCX (15X35X13) and B17-101 AT1DDG8BC (17X52X16).

Thx

Usually it’s rectifier that goes.

I never bothered to look, interested to see how you get on.

For the record, I paid $550 for my replacement.

This may help:

I've done a few random bearings and regs over the years, i would expect to pay around $150 for the Reg if you can get one. Should be able to.. with the bearings they often have a radius that's not needed which gives them a weird part number, that plus extremely long life grease etc.
$800 is steep. I wish I rebuilt mine. But it went in the bin. Mine just had a charge failure, wasn't the failure that was a dead short.

Try Rovacraft in Perth WA. They stock the complete alternator, may also stock the parts you are looking for.

Replaced the whole alt after the rec failed and shorted the windings. It had done ~160,000km by then, so bearings would have been worn too. Cost $650 from memory.

Thank to Tombie and Google i have managed to find a supply source for the Brush Box for the Denso DAN 1106 Alternator. Cannot reason why parts are available in New Zealand yet Australian Agents dont stock them.

To assist others the supplier is AS Group NZ,PH 0011640800727000, their P/No for the Brush Box ABH 6004S $A10 plus postage.

Appears they stock everything alternator related, have not researched if the Diode Bridge or Rectifier are available.

Finally received my return phone call from Denso Auto, extremely helpful. The guts of it is Denso are not in the business to supply spare parts, however suggested I contact JAS Oceania.

JAS dont allow access to information to their web site unless your an account holder, however a phone call revealed their Brush Box P/No is E32-2002 which you can purchase via Bursons who are one of their agents. Interesting pricing was over double the NZ option.

Aussies are being "Ripped Off" in the spare parts market place.

Hang on. Is this thread suggesting that instead of waiting for the factory D4 alternator to cark it and take down a battery or two, you could overhaul it towards the end of it's life? If so, what time/mileage would you suggest (say, 10 years or 170,000?) and is it a DIY or professional job? Would this apply to the 3.0L diesel?

Probably a hang on from my RAAF days, I have always advocated for preventive maintenance. From my experience it is a better approach than waiting for something to fail.

My D4 is ticking the 120K mark and is over 7 years of age, I believe its time to put some new bits in my alternator, same as I have replaced drive belts, suspension compressor plus auto and diff lubricants.

A $100 spent and my own time versus a new alternator and possibly a battery is good economics.
