Anybody got a recommendation? Must have  CarPlay, reverse camera capability, and must be able to do maps. Lot of cheap stuff out there but I'd prefer higher end.

Alpine 7" - not a flip unit though.

Les Richmond have a video install of the same unit

Not cheap - looking at one myself for D2a

Thanks. Flip is not an absolute requirement. I just would prefer the security of being able to hide its presence. Yeah, I want something for the D2, and also for the OKA, but that is more flexible and could have double DIN.

I remember Andrew doing that install. I'll take another look. Thx.

Pretty sure that cant do mapping, you ideally want an android based system to run map apps on.

There was a big long thread on these head units about 12 months ago.
I'll see if I can dig it up tonight.

The one I really liked was a floating face Sony.
It overlapped the vents a tiny bit, but barely.
Any of these will bring the D2 up to current standards.
We're so spoilt now.
I never thought I'd be the type of person that demanded voice activated dialing, ease of access to play lists and Spotify, etc [emoji15] [emoji1787]

You are correct in one way. My preferred map app won't run on CarPlay, but it won't run on Android head units either. I would need something that allowed screen mirroring. Back to the drawing board I guess.

EDIT: It Will run on a head unit that has access to the playstore, which requires internet connectivity.

EDIT#2: Seems the Sony unit will screen mirror my iPhone or iPad.

Personally I don't like carplay or android auto as you still need to use your phone, my android head unit can run various apps and no need to touch the phone.

The wife loves the 2 din version of the Sony in the Patrol and she's an Apple user. I like my Joying in the D2 as it really just needs a Bluetooth connection to the phone because it has all the other bells and whistles built in, including the play store, dual sim, Wi-Fi ap and GPS. And it also fits the space about as perfect as can be for what it is. The only thing I've found lacking so far is it has no built-in inclinometer sensor which would have been handy.

What's a "Joying" when it's at home?

Ahh, Android HU. Trouble with that for me is the only Google product or service I willingly use is YouTube.

I've got a Pioneer one, love it! Have reverse camera hooked up too and it neatly folded away when I wish. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20211220/99979d767aa88695d9c22c02114d7338.jpg
