Well we have retained the ashes with a white wash.

How good are we or how bad are the poms.

What about Scott Boland's bowling. six for seven!

Poms were horrendous in the first 2 tests, thought they’d “seen the light” in the first couple of their bowling sessions in Adelaide, but it all went down hill from there.[emoji853]
Their second innings with the bat, not much too say is there 🤭
The Poms, to their credit, hadn’t faced Boland before, they couldn’t read him and he had them stumped (sorry about the pun, but couldn’t help myself), but they are world class players and should have a bit more skill to at least get past Australia’s first innings total.

Scott Bolands 6 for 7 reminded me of Billy Birmingham’s Bill Laurie, scene 7, the twelfth man again Merv’s hat trick 🤣🤣

It is just not cricket anymore with all the cameras, snick-o-meters, etc, so the umpires can't be more lenient to the lagging side and turn it into more of a contest.

Which is also why I agree with the Formula 1 race director's decision to only let some of the cars un-lap themselves in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, so that the final lap was a race and not a procession held according to the rules, people come to and tune in to see racing not a nerd/rules fest.

I agree, the fun (argument) has been taken out of the game, but I suppose in this day and age who would want to be a cricket umpire who gives the underdog half a chance and have to put up with some unruly spectator(s) after the match.
All this technology also adds a bit of banter (punch ons) between mates (after a few beers) in the lead up to the result🤣🤣

It stopped being cricket, IMO, with Steve Waugh and his "win at all cost" policy. Which is why I said what I did about Gilly. Gilly said "I nicked it, I know I did, and he caught and so I am out", and he walked. Right thing to do. When that attitude left the game it was over for me. $$$ became everything, then more $$$$ for 'hit and giggle' rubbish. Cricket is not baseball, and shouldn't be treated as such. Why do people insist on making everything the same? [/QUOTE]

Don't get me started. My response to this should probably be in the Grumpy Old Buggers thread, but F1 has been crap for 15 years. More, probably. Like most sports, in their desire to form an artificially "level playing ground" they have bleached out any colour from the sport and possibly engineered who will likely win. Like modern "cricket", it's not the game, it's the $$$$ No fun in that.

Glad I have tickets for Days 2 & 3 in Sydney. Might get to see some cricket at least. Feel sorry for the fans in Adelaide and Melbourne that had day 4 & 5 tickets.

You might be wishing for day 1 if the Poms bat first....

On Xmas day my brother said he wasn't going to the MCG for day 1 because 'It's always boring'.

Yeah, well 6 for 7 is a little tedious...

Wasn't that in the pom's 2nd innings, day 2 or 3?

Day 1 they were all out for less than 200 which wouldn't have been boring in the least.

I've been to Harrow a few times doing fish jobs over the years.

Apparently the museum to do with Oz's first touring team (the aboriginal one) there has been overrun since the 6/7 guy (Boland) won the Johnny Mullagh medal.

The whole story of that tour of England in 1868 and Mullagh himself is quite amazing and the museum is well worth a visit.

Against the poms at the time (including the best) he bowled 1877 overs that included 831 maidens and took 245 wickets @ 10.

Had the electrofishing boat in Johnny Mullagh hole in the Glenelg about 200m behind the museum.
