Very interesting in fact. My hopes for my OKA is to travel solo to most places. However, seeing that, I doubt I'd tackle something like the Simpson alone.

Organised correctly you won’t have an issue, dry,it’s not much of a challenge.

We have done it twice solo.

It’s a fantastic trip.

Thanks. I really would be solo. Pretty sure that the car would be fine with the correct prep. It has a Codan HF, lots of water storage etc. I definitely want to increase the fuel capacity though.

Just listened/watched this interesting video & it crossed my mind there was a bloke on here a while back that built his own Camper on a truck chassis not unlike this one. He posted many interesting images at the time. I don't suppose this was the same fellah?

I can't recall his name nor from where his journey originated, WA sort of rings a bell.

Thanks for posting GW but I don't suppose I'll ever get the opportunity to do this journey.

We have done the Simpson 3 times over different tracks ( also the Madigan twice, which I regard as the "North Simpson), no problems. If there is any water think 5 times, or just DON'T

Regards
Geoff

Wouldn't go at that time of year, but yeah, common sense. My OKA weighs 5 Tonnes. It'd go down just like that Canter did.

I worked in the Simpson for nearly two years 55 years ago. If there has been rain or it is expected - don't.

You should try the local K Mart Car Park instead of the Simpson on a Sunday morning before they open, would be best.

In al honesty, no power on earth would get me up on those things. I can fall over in an OKA.

Our first Simpson trip was in 1985 and was fairly easy as most tracks were still being used by oil exploration mobs and the rig road was definitely 2wd, there were road trains out there.
We stopped counting Simpson trips at about the 25 mark and have driven all the different routes many times including a lot of places that are no longer accessible. Trip duration has varied from your typical 4 days to over three weeks depending on route and what we were doing on said trip. The short ones were when we were travelling over to WA and the shortest distance was a straight line and longer ones were usually with Friends of the Simpson project trips doing cleanup, signposting and plant and animal surveys over the years.
Like has been said if it rains be prepared to camp on a dune until it dries out and if its wet already stay away. Never ever drive onto a wet claypan ;-))

So , if it's got wheels , I think someone or their club has tried to cross the simpson in/on it.

I'm pretty sure you could make a pair of skates to do it.

maybe if you modify the skates and fit larger wheels such as these

I'm thinking more like a cross between The Goodies and JackAss.
