Hi all,
I've been thinking about upgrading to a newer landy in the upcoming months. But before I do I would like some of you guys' opinions on what my current disco is worth before I decide to sell it.

it's a 93' Discovery, Tdi, Manual.
-Maroon in colour with Tan interior.
-223,000kms
-Nudge Bar
-New extreme HD clutch
-TopDog steering stabiliser w/Relocator Kit
-2.5" Suspension Lift
-32" Simex Centipedes A/T's on standard 16' steel rims (road wheels)
-32" Trailcutter M/T's (offroad)

That's all I can think of...
What do you think I could get for it?

Regards,
Ben

as a trade 3k-5k at the moment

series 1 v8's are getting around 2k-3k

redbook value will be about what you get privately unless you target a particular person :p

fun fun fun

Inc you just had brain fade or something, at the top is says TDi disco where did you get V8 from? You just did what i normally do.

Benzini i reckon with 200000km plus on the clock and considering its age, without seeing the condition i reckon between 10-12k, 13k if it is in top nick. The modifications you have done to make it more competent off road make bugger all difference to the price and more often than not can lower the price because people may think it has been pushed hard off road. Accessories will do SFA for the price. My beastie had $25,000 worth of mods and accessories done to it and I still only paid the standard price for my Fender. Your best bet is to try the dealers and see what they say just don't get your hopes up.

There's swags of that model in the trading post for $6-9k. Definitely a private sale item to a buyer who understands what it's worth imo. (How did you get 32" wheels onto it?)

Matt, stay off the drugs mate.

I don't think there'd be a 93 Disco of any description in the country going for around 12k. None are selling at those prices.

Benzini, I think if you got 6's you'd be doing well.

In the last twelve months or so second hand car prices have dropped markedly, and four wheel drives more than most. This is the result of lower new car prices (and very competitive selling) and higher fuel prices. Diesels obviously are much more in demand than petrol vehicles, so prices are much higher for them.
Although what has happened is that petrol engines have dropped more than diesels rather than diesels going up.
But older four wheel drives will vary in price very much on condition and history rather than actual model year or mileage, and for many Landrover models the market is so small that it is very difficult to say there is a "going" price for any particular model.

the guy over the road has a 6 month old RAV that he paid 34k for new. it is a truly immaculate vehicle. he went to trade it the other week on a new holden, best offer he got from the 10 or so dealers he approached was 17K.

another guy i know went to trade his realy well looked after landcruiser poverty pack diesel, 2 years old, 20K was his best offer, he had more smoke coming out his ears than his truck...

it appears to me that the dealers have moved their margins in big chunks and it has filtered back down the line to the 2nd hand market.

Sorry Inc my mistake.

Ok i stuffed up for some reason i read 93 and then gave rough prices of my year disco 98. Brain fade is the reason, well thats what im sticking to.

I would have to agree with the 6-7k mark. The fact is they are getting old now so regardless of condition they are still 13yrs old. Matt

The accessories will be attractive to the types of people who hang out on the forum but to the average joe blow who is just interested in driving around town and to the beach (and they are the majority of buyers) I suspect mud tyres and the lift will actually reduce interest.

As someone else has said - why not keep the vehicle but also have it available for sale as is, for the right offroading type person.

One thing to keep in mind is that just because you see vehicles advertised for a certain price does not mean that is what they sell for.
I'm going to make a $4k offer on a $10k advertised Discovery this weekend :o

It has been for sale for around 5 months at least so I am going to offer them a lifeline :D. If they say no then I'll leave them my number and when they calm down maybe they'll ring, maybe they won't.

With this post in mind I nearly drove off the road today when I passed a car yard in Nth Richmond where they had a 1999 Disco Series 1 V8 auto with 120K on the clock. It had worn tyres, crappy wheels and absolutely nothing else - not even a tow bar - and they had $15999 on the window!
I guess they sell cars on the "there's one born every minute" principle.:angrylock:

I think that some dealers think that maybe they will be able to sell at such a price if they get someone looking for a similar Prado (no doubt cost a lot more) and then saying they might prefer this Disco for a bit less money (although a lot more than it is worth).

However even for private sale there are plenty of S1s that are priced between $12-15k.

I'd love to see a price guide for Discoverys and what they actually sell for.

Although was it a '99 or a S1? Or did they have S1's in early '99?

It was difinitely '99 - I checked the paperwork because I didn't believe it myself, it looked older than my '98. Very much an S1. Didn't check the compliance plate thingy though... <_<

I looked at a 2000 Disco S2 V8 Auto the other day. 160k with Books. No offroad from the looks of it. Not immaculate but would clean up ok.
Dealer ( Non LR ) had 15k on it, hinted he had room to move on price.

Hate to think what previous owner got for trade in.:(

A lot of truck for the money.

I think anyone who pays that much didnt do their research and deserves to be riped off.

However looking on carsales there are heaps of disco's priced up around the 6-10k mark, but as Utemad said i wonder what they actually sell for. Matt

A dealer in Canberra sold a 99 Disco 2 TD5 auto with 165,000k on it the week before last - it was adverstised for $16k so probably sold for abit less. I had a look at the car and it was in pretty good nick for its age.

As you said - a lot of truck for the money. I guess the trick is to **** those mugs who are actually trading in and offer them an extra $k or two.
