Interesting review:

300 Series Landcruiser GX vs Nissan Patrol Ti-L vs Land Rover Defender 110 D250: 2022 comparison review - off road, towing, on road driving and more! | CarsGuide (https://www.carsguide.com.au/adventure/2022-toyota-land-cruiser-lc300-gx-nissan-patrol-ti-l-land-rover-defender-110-d250)

To their surprise, they gave the win to the Defender.

In any case, even if you could wean the masses off their Toyotas, it wouldn't help because an LR dealer told me last week that if you ordered a Defender now you'd get it this time next year ....

Next year, if you’re lucky. Thank god I don’t have money burning a hole in my pocket

Even without the delay the masses will still buy the Jap vehicle brands,Nissan,Tojo,Mitsy, whatever.

The Defender will out do those two all day in a test, that’s a given.
In fact looking at some of the vids on utube the Defender is so far ahead in off road ability compared with other vehicles in the same class it’s rediculous.Ride comfort and handling it’s also way ahead.

But long term ownership would be the difference, service costs, reliability, resale, availability of accessories, etc.

Add resistance to damage when driven off road.

Yes - and I can't help but recall the vociferous assertions in the L660 Defender thread that the new Defender would be a soft-roader and useless off-road, with no articulation etc ....
