Makes you wonder when reading things like that but they aren't all the same. My Son dropped out of School in year 10 due to various reasons - told him he needed to find substantial employment before doing so and 2 days later had secured a full time job at the Supermarket he was working as a casual. He fronted the owner and asked him to put him on full time and that he wouldn't regret it. Within 12 months was filling in for Managers when they were on leave then started an Apprenticeship as a Butcher in the Meatroom there. Qualified and became the Meat Manager before he was 20. After a couple of years decided he didn't like retail and has gone to Uni and is training to be a Nurse - yes, he fits the stereotype for a Male nurse. [smilebigeye] He's just turned 24.
Not sure what it says about a Nurse being a qualified Butcher though - still trying to work that one out in my head. [biggrin]

My 'er indoors has managed without a 2nd Kidney all her life. It took her a Migration trip to Adelaide for us to find out the reason she was in pain for years. UK Doctors couldn't find the problem. Seems one of the buggers was restricted due to it not forming properly so out with the daggy one & she is quite happy (?) to live with just one. We have discussed the chances of that one failing so no option to do otherwise except to live with it & maybe donate one of mine if they will have it & that one isn't shot as well.
According to the Sturgeon the remaining one is extremely healthy.
Still, it may never happen & Covid or summat could bring her down instead. Or me.[bigrolf]

No need too. I had one of those when I was laid up in hospital 20+ years ago after my major accident. So I can elaborate some details for 'ya ...
She did a absolute fantastic number on my arm just trying to get a IV drip going for me.
Ended up badly bruised for a few weeks(no pain, just hideous bruising), but more importantly my left arm was inoperable being broken, and she'd struggling to insert the tube to tether my useful right arm to the IV and painkiller drip .. so now both arms inoperable when trying to eat!
Great stuff.
Eventually another nurse came along and correctly used my broken left arm for the drip

SWMBO has 5 teenagers living with her, yet I have to mow the lawns when I go down there.
Apparently they are all to busy?
So I tell Ya We are all DOOMED.

Teenagers can be the laziest sods on god's earth.
How do I know this you may well ask?
Well, was a teen myself a thousand years ago & anything to get out of a bit of "Home Maintenance" when one has a nice looking sort lined up for the flicks that evening, & one has to start putting on the glad rags at about 3pm so you won't be late.
Oh yes, I've been there sonny Jim/Paul.:Rolling::BigCry:

Farm! Have you tried asking them to tidy their bedrooms? Like it was WW3 breaking out already. I'm over that these days & they have kids of their own to grapple with.

The next morning, because the boy wasn’t allowed to go and play with Jonny, he was getting on mums nerves
He could sense this and tried to find something to do, looking out the front window he sees a new house being built
Kid: Mum can I go and play at the building site across the road??

The kids have excelled themselves.
SWMBO had a hissy over them not cleaning their rooms.
Made all sorts of threats up to & including no Netflix or Wi-Fi for a week.
She now has several days of washing to do & the bin is overflowing with extra rubbish bags around it.
Maybe we should just let them have their own way?
Then again SWMBO see's it as a win even if a negative one!

A friend found a solution to the kids not observing her rules around time on electronic games. Used to go to the switch board an trip the circuit they were on. Once this was done games were off until she managed to sort the house electrics which could take a while. Fridge and freezer were on a different circuit

I do worry about the youngsters some days, I often go to a takeaway place and get two of the same item at $14 each, and I've had a few of them use a calculator to add the amounts, so they can ring up $28 on the till.

That might have worked when I was younger, but everything has a battery these days. My niece (10) was giving my brother a hard time, and he threatened to switch off the wifi. She replied "that's fine, I have data!". They learn so fast these days. Turns out it doesn't take them long to find out what "SIM not installed" means.

I am quite surprised at the technical competence of my 11y0 gd in using my "smart TV" (actually an unsmart TV plus an old laptop with a dead screen running Linux) with her phone supplying data.
And I was also rather surprised by her ability to use (and insistence on doing it) the block splitter a couple of days ago when I decided to light the kitchen fire to cook dinner (and ensure hot water).

Quote from Goodreads attributed to Socrates.
“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
Hasn't changed much in 2000 years has it?

As we pass on , it is going to be their inheritance and from what I see , with their technological capabilities , they may just succeed.

Well Socrates was there!
The point is that parents have been complaining about children's behaviour and attitudes since recognised civilisation began, yet here we are still going and still complaining, and My kids are complaining about their kids and the Grandkids will probably complain about their kids.

I am under the impression that Socrates never recorded any of his teachings, sayings or philosophy. Anything attributed to him, is based on the accounts of acquaintances. As far as I'm aware, he put nothing in writing.
Back on topic, most of the younger folk I come in contact with, I find easy going and pleasant to chat with. In saying that, most have been raised in a bucolic environment..

Socrates, being Greek, and living in Athens, probably had never even heard of Latin, let alone spoke it. It is unclear whether he actually wrote down anything, but what he spent his career doing was teaching students - and most of what we know about him comes from the writings of two of his students, especially Plato, although it is unclear how much of Socrates' philosophy is actually Plato's.

Correct, JD. My "Latin" comment was obscurely tongue in cheek, related to the "English" reference. Xenophon, another of Socrates disciples, was a very erudite man and military strategist, in his own right.

Correct, JD. My "Latin" comment was obscurely tongue in cheek, related to the "English" reference. Xenephon, another of Socrates disciples, was a very erudite man and military strategist, in his own right.
And Xenephon was also an experienced and competent soldier - as was almost every male citizen of every Greek city state of the day. The incompetent ones did not stay around too long - when the city states were not fighting each other or the Persians, they usually managed a civil conflict by themselves. And worth noting that Xenephon's main claim to fame in his lifetime was as the leader of a troop of mercenaries fighting on the losing side of a minor civil war in the Persian Empire (having apparently been on the wrong side in a political and possibly physical conflict in Athens). He spent most of his life living outside of Athens, dying in Corinth.
