The first radar satellite images are starting to become public.
Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai has almost disappeared - Francois Guerraz - Medium (https://medium.com/@fguerraz/hunga-tonga-hunga-haapai-has-almost-disappeared-f0826609d353)
Not surprised that some above water real estate has disappeared.
One of our local council air pressure sensors picked up the pressure wave. KaBoom! is right.

The one natural disaster Australia doesn't have to bloody worry about, much.
No active volcanoes in Oz.

A touch concerning now - since most of the island got blown away, the vent is now well under water, so could result in an even larger explosion. This volcano is known (in a geological timescale) for multiple eruptions in a short time span so will likely pop off again soon.

Probably in another thousand years or so.

Given that it’s erupted about a dozen times in the past century and at least three times in the past decade it will probably be a bit less than a thousand before the next one. It’s actually quite active.

I am talking about major eruptions like the latest one Not the odd tremor or dust fart that is common with these ring of fire volcanoes [thumbsupbig]

Have a look at the 2009 and 2014-15 eruptions. 2009 in particular was not a dust fart.

Compare those eruptions to the latest one and you will see that they Are prety much a "Dust Fart" in comparison [thumbsupbig]

In Australia you are only protected from big waves that can follow an eruption if behind the barrier reef. Those who live on the coast further south on the east coast have a potential problem

Same could probably be said about the rumblings leading up to Krakatoa. Or Mt Saint Helens. Even seasoned vulcanologists admit that the things are pretty much unpredictable.
I'm not saying this one will erupt again soon, but I think a thousand years is a bit of a stretch for something that erupted in the last week. I also think I may have a chance (?) to see Krakatoa go boom in what I have left of my life. Not sure I want to. It would be devastating. But this planet doesn't give a **** about what any of us think.

Indeed. If Hunga Tonga was heard as far away as Alaska as reported, I reckon our friends in northern WA will hear that one! If it's anything like 1883 it'll play havoc with their solar as well.

No, it typically has short eruptive periods spanning a few years, then goes to sleep for the thousand, so the eruptive period will likely continue for a while more.
