Anyone know the best place to get a pair of Lucas ST51 D type Tail lights for a 1953 S1 80"?
A new pair from the UK including postage work out to around 185 to 190 pound.
Im happy to restore used or buy new, so if anyone has done the rounds and worked out where the best prices can be found, I'd love to hear.

Also, were our S1 tail lights originally chromed or painted black?

30 years ago I could bring home a couple from each swap I went to but over the years there have been less available .You will do a lot of hunting these days 2nd hand ones & people are wanting big money for them. They should be black .

As said very hard to find. And will be expensive.
I used parts form these guys to Build up a couple of second hand ones I picked up. Had to add internals, clear lens and new clips.
ST51 "D" LIGHT NO. PLATE LENS - Classic & Vintage Car Parts from SVC - The Best Prices (s-v-c.co.uk) (https://www.s-v-c.co.uk/product/st51--d--light-no--plate-lens/)
I would suggest just grabbing a couple of After market ones, but postage costs from UK are going through the Roof.
Postage costs for my 53 80inch Canvas from Comptons2000 (Under Cover Covers) is $400. My S3 SWB one few years back was $100.

Wow , About 6 years ago my1/2 cab canvas tilt from the UK cost around $400 including freight & 3 days delivery, that was before TNT were taken over by FedEx , after that freight cost skyrocketed & delivery time blew out .

I wonder where the replicas are made, most UK automotive electrical suppliers seem to have them.
Best price I found was under 60GBP each excluding tax but as mentioned freight is expensive from the UK at present.

Which is correct for the Series I, with or without the bar across ? The Series I Shop mentions the bar across was original then the one without bar was to increase light output to meet UK regulations.

I had the ones with the bars on my 50 for many years , don't think it had any when I bought it . I always liked the ones with out the bars so sold the ones I had 7 bought new ones with out.

All the 80 inch models had black ST51 lamps with bar, except the US market which had Lucas L488 lamps. The 1954 86 and 107 models had the ST51 style lamp minus the bar because the UK laws changed and made the bar types illegal as previously mentioned. Pork Pies were fitted in 1955 and 1956 and some other types were fitted to the end of Series 1 production. I hope this helps.
