Someone has latched onto my mobile phone number and been sending a large number of sms saying things like my parcel could not be delivered, or it is awaiting collection etc etc etc see attached screen shot. Of course there is no actual order.

Now the phone spam filter automatically catches them but I am interested in what the scam is. I assume if I opened a link something nasty would happen but what?
I assume everyone has an idea but does anyone know what the actual scam is?

Generally they will attempt to download some malware to your phone which then gives access to passwords, account details etc etc.

I get them on my spare phone. I've never opened one to find out.

I look up the xxxxx.com to see what the website is about.
Had one the other day from a Californian business that looked legit.
I usually block the number and delete.
Thankfully they have dropped off for now.

Thanks for that - yes looks like a Flubot.
Thankfully all but one got grabbed by the spam filter and the one that didn't looked legit as I had just ordered something but I moved it to spam as a precaution.
I have now deleted the 45 items from the spam filter and have run my Malware scan as a precaution.
Cheers

Yep, same here. Reckon it might be from phone numbers harvested from parcels delivered?
- Some online vendors insist on a mobile number. No number - NO transaction
One of my more IT savvy friends suggested a possible leak in government data... like QR thingies. In WA the Wallopers were caught out using it's location data, for their nefarious purposes....
Or Occam's Razor would suggest a random phone number generator.

Possible that hackers have a list of mobile numbers, but more likely it is just automated calls working their way through all mobile numbers.
All mobile numbers are known based on what blocks of numbers are available. The true list out there is mobile numbers that have actually answered a call - this is worth money and is traded.
I keep getting a message about my Amazon order and I have never placed an order with them and don’t have an account. It is just an automated call working through all mobile numbers.

The spammers can send something from a number that appears differently in different zones of the world. I got one that showed to me as a supermarket in South Africa.
There was an explanation on "Download this show" on ABC radio......I think it was this episode (https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/downloadthisshow/is-this-the-end-for-facebook/13747542)

I see it’s been a while since this was posted, but I just wanted to ask if anyone's seen an increase in spam texts that look like legit missed delivery notices lately? I’ve been getting them from random local numbers and wonder what filters or apps actually work without killing performance. Would love to hear if anyone’s tried something new since last posting here.

YES! Along with spurious MyGov and a plethora of other messages. Unfortunately for me, I cannot activate my iPhone's screening function, because the hospital frequently texts me from hidden numbers:bat:

I had similar issues and switching to a new sip trunking provider (https://telxi.com) really helped cut down spam calls. They offer better caller ID filtering and it's been much quieter since. The older one I used didn't filter much at all. Might be worth checking what features your current provider gives or thinking about changing to one with better spam protection.
