Discovery 3 for towing

Hi all
i am new to land rovers and especially discovery 3. I am wanting to know weather or not to get petrol or diesel for towing a 20 ft caravan? We will be going around Australia and spending a lot of time in the top end of Australia. Any advice will be welcome.

Fuel economy would be absolutely horrendous towing with a petrol.
My vote would be diesel. The most reliable being the 2.7l in the early D4
