Hi All,
I've been a regular lurker here with a D4 originally and now a Delica [bighmmm].
I'm looking to get out and about on longer off-road trips with a small hybrid (probably 10' - 1700kg).
I'm looking at two options for an FFRR:
2007, low KM tdv8 (3.6):
carsales.com.au (https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2007-land-rover-range-rover-vogue-tdv8-auto-4x4-my07/SSE-AD-12071766/?Cr=0)
2010, lowish KM tdv8 (4.4):
carsales.com.au (https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2010-land-rover-range-rover-vogue-tdv8-auto-4x4-my11/OAG-AD-20486523/?Cr=0)
I am leaning toward the 2007 as it can take 18" rims, it drives beautifully (I tried it), and the purchase price (negotiated down a little) gives me plenty of room for a major service (hoses, lines, transmission, and induction/egr clean). I can also get an easy-enough remap to take it to close to similar power as the 4.4. However, the 4.4 is newer, more comfy (by other's accounts), smoother, more economical, and possibly more reliable. With 20" wheels apparently being fine on rough roads these days that's also a good buy. The 2007 has has most services but missed one annual service when it was stored and de-registered once upon a time (inside, sealed-ish environment). It looks very clean, I'd just be worried about plastic and rubber bits perishing given age and lack of use.
For the 2007 I'm budgeting about $3,500 for the service to replace a bunch of rubber bits and do the transmission, and $3000-$4000 for rims and tyres as replacement (can get some of this back by selling existing rims). For the 2010 i don't need new rims, can get away with current tyres, and don't need to replace so much of the bits so would only do a major service (transmission and all fluids).
Main questions:
1. Is the 2007 one a crazy idea? (too old, too many potential issues?)
2. Is the 2010 one going to be terrible as an outback touring vehicle?
3. Should i only be looking at the 3.6 or only the 4.4 or are they substitutable as outback tourers?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
I know i can get a D4, i just can't justify paying the same (or more) price for a D4 as for an FFRR. Most driving will be bitumen and easy gravel roads with the occasional major 4x4 trip (e.g. simpson, googs, north WA+NT, etc.).
Thanks in advance for any help at all, and hope to be on here soon as a contributing RR owner!
Daniel
