Hi all

I'll also put this up in "Markets", but I need to hit as many of you as I can as quickly as I can with a question.

"Where can I get hold of (read: "do you know anyone with") an old Landy (series model I suppose) for around the $3k mark that still goes reasonably well and that would need only minor work to keep registered?

This is a question from my CEO, who usually drives a new Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.8 Hemi, but loves my Defender, and now wants an old Landy to use up at our company house on Lake Macquarie to drive around the area and pull his motor boat about with.

Does anyone know of any - either directly or indirectly - that are for sale in the Sydney/Central Coast areas that are going for around the three grand mark? It would be well-loved and looked after for the rest of eternity.

Oh! I forgot! = "Preferably without a roof!"

Thanks in advance :)

Chris

Sorry Chris neither of the ones i own go and one is in bits. The series III trayback in the front yard apparently went but has a fuel supply problem, and would need new tyres. Matt

How big's the boat?

A series might struggle a bit, especially if its a bit tired

LOL!! Thanks for your replies everyone! It looks like we've solved the problem shortly after asking for your help  Sorry for getting you all excited!

I thought I'd just take a chance and have a squizz on eBay - never hurt me before. I found his new truck in about 3 minutes. It's already paid for (at minute 4) $3,800, and we pick it up early next week from Buladelah, NSW.

Here's the link. I have to say I'm jealous. I would have bought it if I had a loose four grand lying around.... love the thing....:(

And I thought that it was going to be hard to find. It's in good nick, and the current owner is a Landy nut from way back. No rust to speak of, and even the previously-rusty window channels have all been replaced recently.

Max - it's just a lake runabout with a 105-hp outboard. It's pretty light. Anyhow - 4WD low and it will deposit and remove the trailer from water pretty easily. Then, it's about a 200 yard run back to the house along a flat road.

Should be cool.

Spot-on Barry! Absoluuuutely made to order! He's really wrapt.

Now, when we're all up at the house, he'll get me to dump the boat in the water and go fishing. Fine with me - I'll have the Landy to tootle around in while he is :)

G'day All, From the REMLR site here are it's Military Tags;
1.Series 2A 109" G.S. 1966 model. Census No. c6028 (G.S. Gen/Service)
2. Chassis Number 25315896c (should be)
3. Engine Number 25243626H. (already knew that one)
4. Army Rego No. 113-926.
5. Disposed of in Victoria (Sthrn Comm.)
6. 1 of 3,727 109" Land Rovers used by Aus/Army.
7. 1 of 240 G.S. Land Rovers with ARN commencing with 113.
Thats if what info provided by the seller is correct and all that info gained by the engine number. It is missing quite a few bits Military i.e.Tail light protectors, Nato hook, top rail and hood sticks, cut wing guards from a quick look BUT yes I do realise that it's just a towing machine. From the pix it looks pretty good and should do many years of easy work just towin a little boat anyway enough of my ravings cheers Dennis
PS it's piddlin down rain thats why I looked it all up to pass the time :wasntme:

Yep - it's got a heavy-duty Hayman Reese bar that was fitted after these shots were taken. The only thing we have to supply is the tongue (which I have a few of anyway). Even the trailer wiring is new - as of January this year.

Thanks though!

G'day Omaroo, let us know if it still has the original chassis and any other military fittings left like the following;
1. Convoy light, situated under the rear of the vehicle to put light on the rear diff. (I didn't notice a convoy light in RHS front guard, possibly because it didn't have cut wing mudguards)
2. Nomenclature plate should be mounted in the LHS of the parcel tray, along with it's delivery tag (small Aluminium plate with numbers and dates, mileage, which Command it went too)
3. Blackout switch and panel Rhs of instrument cluster.
anyway gotta get off here swmbo needs to use the machine cheers mate Dennis:wasntme:

Good one Chris, I did follow this one on Ebay, although I thought a bit over the top on price, just my thought.

BTW I feel like "Mary had a little lamb", I've got three bags of mohair wool on top of my roof rack to bring to the EXPO on Sunday for Jenny to spin, can't wait for the scarf, there is quite a bit of weight, many jumpers I would think.

See you there.

We used to use a Series III 2.25 petrol tray top to launch the 26 foot power boat. It was only about 100 metres to the ramp along a dirt road, so low 4 was the go. The ramp was so shallow we used to get the back wheels of the LR off the end into the mud:o .

I got into LR's because of waterkiing and towing my 18ft Inshore Race boat.

We used to buy old ex army S2 and S2a just for this job - the 2.25 petrol used to pull anything put of reasonablely deep sand!!! Only ever broke one rear axel.

I leave Appin at 7:00am tomorrow, head up the M7 to Newcastle, head from there up to Buladelah and then on to Wootton by lunch. I muck around there getting to know it and re-learning a crash-box's nuances for a couple of hours. Then the drive back to Lake Macquarie where it'll live for a little while. In a couple of weeks I'll bring it back to Sydney for a complete service top to bottom..... and then maybe take it for a drive somewhere..... :)
