I am copying a modification listed on this forum. Removed the under dash AC unit from my TD5 Defender, and installed a unit in the rear.

Out with the old, in with the new!!!

p.s. factory unit listed for sale in market place.

I work up Cape York. Thousands of kilometers of corrugated roads and tracks. With the old AC not working to its full potential, windows down, and red dust inside. Have blown out with leaf blower, but needs to be gurnied out.[biggrin]

Got it wired up, and plumbed on Wed. Cools the inside of the insulated Defender on about 40% cool, and low fan speed. Very happy with the result. Outside temp around 32C.

What unit/parts did you use, and can you post a link?

I just purchased a under dash unit from my local AC specialist. Paid a bit more than online stores, but I try and support local businesses. Purchased the hoses from him also. Installed unit in cargo barrier, and plumbed the hoses in. Then had a mobile AC auto sparky come and hook it up to existing plumbing in the engine bay.

All up about $2200

I'm always looking at options - no cargo barrier to install an air con in in a twin cab.

Nice install Mudnut,
Im just trying to track down some pad fittings and hoses to finish off mine, once I get around to it Ill get some photos up on here. But the pressures off now its getting a bit cooler.

Hey Vlad,
I'm putting a EV2208 behind the rear seats in my 130. It seems to fit nicely in an upright position with some hand crafted brackets. It has 4 round 62mm outlets, Ill run 1 each to the rear corners and im thinking of building a center console to plumb 2 outlets into the front of the cabin. Im just getting all the plumbing together now, so hopefully it will work. Just havent thought about evaporator drainage yet. But like I said above, the pressures off now its cooled down a bit.

Good work Mudnut.

How did you run the hoses to/from the compressor/condenser?

Very cool - yeah I;d love to know more.
As an aside I assume you bought the car builders defender 130 sound deadening kit? Would you reccomend?

Would you reccomend?
I think its made a difference, its a bit hard to quantify without any hard numbers. It is definitely quieter, but its still no luxury wagon. I didnt buy the kit though, I just did a little bit to start with. Ive done the floor with deadener and have since done the rear wall with acoustic foam. I have some more deadener and Insu-layer in the mail to do the roof. Ill also get right up the firewall now that Ive taken the old A/C unit out. Im not sure how much you wil save buying the kit.

Once I get around to finishing off the A/C ill post up some pictures and a but of a run down if it all works.

Good work Mudnut.

Ran the hoses down through the floor through electrical compression fittings, and along the chasis and into the engine bay.
