View Full Version : Iso Spedic speed limiter?

In the 1960 series 2 I've started to put back together, there's a strange device in the engine bay called an Iso spedic 525/2, from what I can tell, it's a speed limiter. I haven't got much info on the device, such as how it works or how to reconnect the belt, which looks like it's connected to the fan.

Can anyone tell me anything about this, mainly how it works and how it should look when set up properly? A speed limited S2 sounds a little paradoxical.

It's a petrol 1960 S2, ex fire vehicle. It does look like there may be a belt missing, and that the fan might require twin belts, which I gather means it may be an indicator it was military-spec?

thanks

It's a governor to keep the engine revs constant while running for example a device connected to the PTO, in your case probably a fire fighting pump.

Set the revs on the hand throttle and the governor will try to maintain those revs whatever the load on the engine.

Usually parts of the linkage are missing so hopefully yours is complete.

You'll find some images of the setup on the internet
I have one on a Series I (I'll have to find a photo).

Ahh, that's brilliant, thanks! The linkage looks to have been loosened off at some point but it looks like everything is still there. I'll take a pic and upload.

Any idea what type of belt is required?

Mine used an A series belt (standard automotive) but you'll have to work out the length.

That arm with a naked ball joint on the end tells me part of the linkage (the bit connecting to the throttle linkage) is missing.

I feared that might be the case, thanks.

I'm not sure if mine works, I'll try it one day....

The pulley was cracked so a colleague turned one up for me and the hole in one of the arms was oval so I soldered in a brass bush to repair it.
The front seal was a leather one which was replaced because of the amount of oil leaking out and I made a new gasket for the front cover.

One of the control rods has a spring loaded mechanism, the spring is important and of course this is the rod that's usually missing.
About $200 here plus freight Iso-Speedic Engine Governor (https://www.lroe.co.uk/Iso-speedic-engine-governor/)

I recently picked up another Isospeedic governor but alas no control rod as usual !

Just noticed that yours is the 'opposite hand' to mine. I did read that Series I & Series II were different.

Best of luck with it.
