I purchase a THURAYA - XT Lite a little while ago.

Parked up at BIL place until departure date (next week some time),

Tallish trees to the northwest and a shed right next to me. Handset alone facing North West could not connect……..

Todays mission or to permanently mount external antenna to the roof rack on a folding UHF mount, we need to change the angle dangle before we set camp (RTT) and driving mode

Will be interesting to see if we hold reception all time when driving and camped up.

Have the external antenna fitted…….been driving around brisbane yesterday arvo and this morning.

Phone has maintained a connection all the time. Averaging 4 bars.

At times dips to 1 bar…..

Now just need to see how/if it holds a phone call while driving.

Send/receiving texts takes around 10sec each way.

Yes,same here, hopeless around trees and in the scrub.Great in the desert.
I actually went to a mobile phone with a plug in antenna mounted on a roof rail.It works extremely well.

Not as good as a sat phone, but all we need at the moment, your needs are probably different.

We don’t really have any real need to have reception while in the car, just figured we have decided to carry a Sat Phone therefore figured for a few hundred bucks we don’t have to stand out in the open looking in the right direction waiting for a signal

We bought a sat sleeve and whilst it has its limitations it is good when camped as you can pull it out and place some where say on the bonnet, it then blue tooth’s to you mobile and you can put upto 6 mobiles on it.
