The reversing light on the 2008 Puma stopped working. I did the basics by checking the bulb and fuse but they were O.K. So I fitted a new reverse switch and it still did not work. I took the reverse light unit off and put it on the 2011 Puma and it worked fine. I fitted the reverse light unit from the 2011 Puma to the 2008 Puma and it did not work. So it was not the fuse, the bulb, the switch or the light unit so I suspected a break in the wiring. Time for professional help. So I left it in to a local garage and asked them to tackle it and to change the oil and filter while they were at it. I supplied the oil and filter. Well today I got the Puma back.
If you look at a picture of the switch you will see it has a rubber "O" ring. When this was removed and the switch reinserted everything worked fine. So the "O" ring was replaced with some silicon sealer and the switch put back in place so all is well. It just needed the switch to be that fraction closer to the gear stick. This was the new switch I had fitted as I thought the old one was faulty but it is O.K. All I can think is that there must be a little wear where the gearstick meets the ball on the reverse switch and moving it that bit closer by removing the rubber "O" ring and using silicon instead allowed the gearstick to act on the ball bearing and thus getting the reverse light to come on. As well as getting this sorted I had the garage do an oil and filter change. I supplied the oil and filter. The cost of the work came to €20 or 29.22 AUD..
Here is a photo of a switch. The "O" ring is on the left at the bottom of the thread where it meets the unit body.
